5) Kindergartners tend to be ignorant and self-absorbed, which to many adults is pathetic, and always somebody else’s problem to deal with.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Entirely dismantling the government system and having universal private education is the only solution.

Have you every noticed the large variety of summer camps advertised in the New York Times? There are camps for every interest and disability...even camps for difficult youth.

If our nation's schools were completely privatized, schools would emerge that would effectively teach difficult and at risk children.

“We know that the kid got some “smiley faces” and some “frowny faces,” but we don’t really know at all the extent of his alleged misbehavior. Without further evidence, I’m inclined to say that he was a normal, kinetic 5 year-old boy.”

And normal, kinetic 5 year old boys misbehave. If you read further on past the smiley and frownies, the parent was told he has hard time keeping his hands to himself. Who knows what that means and who knows what conferences ensued, but I’m inclined to believe this kid had some behavior problems that weren’t being addressed.

That said, this teacher was a ticking time bomb, no doubt, and needs to be canned immediately.

I’ve had teachers tell me worse and I’m doing alright. Suck it up kid. Not saying the teacher is not to blame, but I’m tired of the over emotional kids can’t be challenged card.

I remember misbehaving in 3rd grade and the teacher sent me to the kindergarten class for the entire day. She called me out in front of everybody and said I was a immature baby and deserved to be in kindergarten, and the entire class was pointing and laughing. So I spent the day in kindergarten, napping on a mat, coloring, and learning the alphabet.

Did I tell my parents about it? No, cause they would have whooped my ass. I sucked it up and behaved better.

I once read an article written by a female teacher about little boys. Seems one little boy was always bumping her, couldn’t keep his hands to himself. She scolded him time after time to no avail.

Then she realized that his ‘bumps’ were his way of saying ‘i want your attention’.

My two little boys did the same thing, frequently to the point of aggravation. Once I read the story I understood why they were doing it. Give them some attention and WHA LAA the behavior stops and you have a happy little boy and a happy parent.

This looks like an extreme case of a five year old with real behavioral problems. I don’t agree with teacher’s course of action, but I find it understandable.

Sit in on some teacher education classes sometime.

You will find that many of the teachers to be act like junior high school girls. They can be very mean, small-minded, unprofessional, and very cliquish. Sometimes I think they just want to relive those teen years over.

Oh, and the profs sometimes act the same way.

It doesn’t matter, though, as long as they get the certification indoctrination.

“I don’t agree with teacher’s course of action, but I find it understandable.”

Understandable to verbally abuse a 5 year old for hours?

“But there is usually another side to the story....or do you just discount that because it wasn’t in the headline?”

No, I think a teacher who can’t handle a 5 year old needs to be canned regardless. Whatever his problems, verbally abusing him is not the problem. Correction, teaching, discipline are the answer. Verbal abuse only creates larger problems.

So yes I’d fire her after having my wife kick her butt. Then I’d go talk to the principal and school board to find out why they allowed the situation to develop and such a teacher to be employed.

I have friends who are teachers. They never said anything like this, but I have heard stories.

The generally all same something to the effect that if the kid is a jerk, the father is probably a jerk too.

The apple does not from the tree far falleth.

I feel bad for the teacher. I bet the kid really doesn’t have any friends - kind of like Al Gore.

What a ridiculous post.

I don't feel sorry for the teacher at all, kids will be kids and if you can't handle the heat then you shouldn't be in the kitchen.

And I don't know how you know enough from this incident to say the kid doesn't have any friends. If he doesn't the teacher should be there to help him not do what she did.

Which is why men are so important in children’s lives!

Good job Grandpa!!!!

*blush* Thank you.

My wife, keeps telling my daughter how lucky the boys are to have a Dad and a Grandfather that are deeply involved in their lives.

My Son-in-law is a retired Marine Gunny, and champion body-builder. He is a stickler for nutrition, exercise and discipline.

Just watching the boys wrestle with their Dad wears me out!

Dear Slapshot68,

“And normal, kinetic 5 year old boys misbehave.”

Yup. And if the Kindergarten teacher can't handle it, she should go do something for which she is suitably qualified. Someone suggested septic tank cleaning. I can't say I disagree with that.

Some “behavior problems” are only problems in the context of certain environments. A neighbor kid was labeled ADHD and put on drugs at the insistence of the local public school. This kid used to play with my kids. He was definitely an energetic fellow who didn't like to sit too long, especially if you were boring him.

Yet, he was a very bright kid who could play a mean game of chess. And could focus intently, and nearly motionless, for 20, 30, 40 minutes on a challenging game of chess. This was at 10 years old.

But because he couldn't sit still through a 90-minute math class in the local school (don't aske me why they had 90-minute anythings for 10 year-olds - that's absolutely idiotic), he was labeled ADHD.

His mother eventually took him out of our allegedly award-winning local public elementary school and homeschooled him for a couple of years. It did wonders for him.

The parents said the boy complained about the teacher hassling him. that is why they put the recorder in his pocket. I think they did the right thing.

Obviously it wasn’t the 1st time she did it.

Bingo!

You have nailed it.

No, you’re a self-annonited jerk. How, and on what high-ground basis do you even flirt with defending this bitch? Maybe you, like her, feel that it is necessary to tear down others, even five year-olds, to elevate yourself.

For more on teachers acting like students...check out this thread from yesterday...http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2022488/posts.

I know a lot of public school teachers and many of them are pretty nice folks. However, there's not a one of them that doesn't believe - FIRMLY BELIEVE - that they have the worst job in the world and that they're the most picked on, put upon, and beaten down employees that have ever lived. The attitude - this "pity poor picked-on me chip on the shoulder" - spans all ages, from my retired M-i-L to one of my friends new-to-teaching wives. "You think that YOU have a bad job, let me tell you how lousy mine is...." is a pretty common comment to hear.

'The Chip' must be a part of the indoctrination classes. Mrs. WBill and I are planning to homeschool, or private school.

Now, for all of the FReeper public school teachers that are going to jump in and tell me that I'm wrong....Fine. I'm sure that there are exceptions to every rule. I'm just saying - the few dozen teachers that I know pretty well, all exhibit these characteristics.

There is nothing that kid could do to deserve what she did to him.

If he acted up, she should call the parents, send him to the principal, etc. If its bad enough, he could be expelled.

I have no sympathy for the teacher. She was the adult.

The bitch should be banned from teaching forever.

The teachers' association is defending Woodward, saying that she "lost her cool" that day

It was not just "that day". The parents sent the tape recorder because of things that had happen previously.

I would also bet that you have a good marriage.
