In the small town of Winnemucca Nevada a man bent on performing a mass shooting at a bar was stopped by an armed CCW permit holder who happened to be in the right place at the right time. The alleged mass murderer had already killed two victims & had injured two others with gunshot wounds, but while he was reloading he was shot & killed by an armed CCW permit holder who was also at the bar.
Not true, it depends on the state. In Virginia, you can open carry in a bar.
Thanks for the post newbie. Always like a happy ending...
I'm not familiar with that term. What are "setups"?
Now thats what I call gun control
Ohio CCW has the same law. I do not know about holding my gun in a topless bar.
And that is the major point that everybody forgets about conceal carry .... I DON'T want anyone to see because CCW in itself is tactical. I don't want the punk that is about to hold me up KNOW that I am carrying ... tactically he is in for a BIG surprise.
You want a "whiskey and water?". You bring the whiskey. We'll "sell" you the water!
“I’m not familiar with that term. What are “setups”? “
Everything but the booze. It might be a glass with some ice or it might be some bar mixer in a glass.
Some states prohibit bars. The way around it is to have clubs. They give you the drink but sell you the setup. Technically, they didn’t sell you any booze, just a clean glass.
Wonder if I'm still a member? Maybe I'll run for club president!
So you can bring your own booze? What if I don’t want a glass? Is it illegal to drink if I don’t buy the water (just sip from the bottle)?
Different kind of establishment here. They had a liquor license from the state but could not sell alcoholic beverages in the community so they st up as a "private club" which had the rights to sell these beverages regardless of city ordinances banning sales in other "public" establishments. Establishments who sell only "setups" do not have a liquor licenses from the state and are prohibited by city ordinances to serve alcoholic beverages in any form.
Wrong.
While usually delegated & deferred to the government, the people DO, under circumstances which do not warrant such deferrement, have a right to act as judge, jury, and executioner. If the people did not have that right, the gov't could not be granted that power. In this particular case, the "alleged" was judged on evidence, ajudicated an immediate threat to society for which an immediate sentence of capital punishment was required, and the sentence promptly carried out - and other than simply having the process audited later, the verdict stands.
Illegal? No! Not permitted - YES! You can "sip" from the bottle all you want but you WILL buy the water and OFTEN! The bouncers will ensure that, hehehehe.
How about the bartenders/bar owners? Perhaps they need to arm up then. To protect their customers.
Tell that to the author of the article. I came to that conclusion in my original post that the “conviction” of the rampage shooter was done AT the scene by the gun carrying citizen.
CCW is legal in bars in Nevada.
The most different thing I had to get used to after moving to Nebraska from Colorado, is that they can sell wine and liquor in the grocery stores here in NE(except on Sunday, and they can only sell beer and wine after 12 noon then). In Colorado, the grocery store can only sell beer (and I believe it's still only 3.2%) - you have to go to a liquor store if you want wine or anything stronger.
Seriously, though, you're not allowed to carry in a bar in Texas; it's illegal to carry in any establishment which makes over half of their income by selling alcoholic beverages. You can tell which ones these are, because they are mandated by the state to have a "51%" sign prominiently displayed.
I guess it's a good thing Nevada is a tad different. Of course, in my opinion, any "gun-free zone" is nothing more than a soft target; perhaps we need "designated carriers", or "bar marshalls" (like "air marshalls")?
:^D
In North Carolina you can’t CCW any place that derives more than 0% of their money from alcohol.
IOW not in Applebees, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, TGIF, etc.
