McCain picks former Reagan official to head VP search
The Hill ^ | 5/23/08 | J. Taylor Rushing

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has tapped a former Reagan administration official to head his campaign’s search for a vice presidential nominee.

Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander (Tenn.) told The Hill that Arthur Culvahouse, who was Reagan’s White House counsel from March 1987 to January 1989, will be helping McCain vet candidates and develop a list.

Alexander and Culvahouse have known each other for decades and both have connections to former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker (R-Tenn.).

“It’s Arthur B. Culvahouse, that’s who’s heading the search,” Alexander said.

Culvahouse refused to comment to The Hill, as did the McCain campaign.

“John McCain is heading his search committee, and other than that we don’t talk about it,” said Charlie Black, a top McCain adviser.

And you think Lamar “Red Sweater” Alexander is better than Baker? I’d call it pretty much a wash.

Do us all a big favor, McCain, pick a legitimate conservative.

No Romney, no Crist, no Graham and NO Lieberman!

Tom Coburn or Haley Barbour would work well.

He likes Fred because Fred is from Tennessee. I doubt ideology has anything to do with it.

It is Arthur Culvahouse not Alexander who is leading the search. Alexander was the one who leaked Arthur Culvahouse’s name.

When I read "former Reagan official" in the title my heart leaped.

When I read the name of that wuss,"Lamar Alexander", in the text my heart went into arrhythmia.

This dim bulb might pick himself.....arghhhh.

Anyone have a spare nitro pill?

Id like Jindal to be the VP. But he should stay in Louisiana to lead his state for a few more terms just like the governor of AK.

Let me see, he donated money to Arlen Specter and then says “.......John McCain is the only candidate who can rally the Reagan coalition of conservatives, independents and conservative Democrats needed to defeat the Democratic nominee.”

Just another delusional lawyer.

No Romney

Funny...I pray to God that McCain picks him so I can vote for McCain. Right now it is very difficult thinking about pulling the lever for this guy. McCain is the biggest nightmare America could have had with regards to candidates running this year. I truthfully believe he was at the BOTTOM of my list of favorites (global warming!!! WTF!. Seriously we all got dupped this year.
