To turn the remark into the "threat to Obama" that not a few here alluded to, requires more gymnastics than even I can justify -- and that's going some!
Oh please, spare me. Hillary knows exactly what she's saying, just as Bill knew what he was saying when he made his Jesse Jackson comment, and what Ed Rendell was saying when he said Pennsyltuckians weren't ready to vote for a black guy.
Hillary could have used other examples to talk about long primary seasons or decisions going all the way to the convention. In fact, she could have still referred to the '68 convention without mentioning RFK's assassination at all (although I think that's a stupid convention to reference given what happened).
No, Hillary was playing upon what a lot of black people fear - that somebody will take Obama out. It catches her some flack now, but it'll die down soon, all the while it'll be in the back of people's minds.
I do think it was political suicide though - had she used it a few weeks ago, the comment would have better served her. This late in the game, it's of no use other than to make her look like some kind of crazy cat lady.

"Oh please, spare me. Hillary knows exactly what she's saying,...OK. But I am just one those people that says, "Here's five different models of what something could mean, and odds are it means #1, but possibilities #2 & #5 are within reason and numbers #3 & 4 are long shots. I bet on Number #1 (a misunderstood gaffe)unless proven otherwise."
On the other hand, if I were Obama, I'd be wearing a bullet-proof vest, testing my food and keeping close to my Secret Service, because yes, Hillary is capable of just about anything in order to win!
