Pat Buchanan Defends Hitler's Invasion of Poland
littlegreenfootballs.com ^ | May 21, 2008

Last week we noted the bizarre arguments of Seattle Times editorial writer Bruce Ramsey, who tried so hard to defend Barack Obama against President Bush’s “appeasement” speech that he actually ended up defending Hitler for annexing Austria. His exact words were: “What Hitler was demanding was not unreasonable.”

If you think that’s an ahistorical pretzel of monumental proportions, though, you ain’t seen nothin’ — because here comes Pat Buchanan. According to old Pat, not only was the Anchluss not a problem, Hitler’s invasion of Poland was also perfectly understandable, given the Poles’ refusal to negotiate.

Those darned stubborn Poles were responsible for starting World War II, according to Pat: Bush Plays the Hitler Card.

German tanks, however, did not roll into Poland until a year later, Sept. 1, 1939. Why did the tanks roll? Because Poland refused to negotiate over Danzig, a Baltic port of 350,000 that was 95 percent German and had been taken from Germany at the Paris peace conference of 1919, in violation of Wilson’s 14 Points and his principle of self-determination.

Hitler had not wanted war with Poland. He had wanted an alliance with Poland in his anti-Comintern pact against Joseph Stalin.

But the Poles refused to negotiate. Why? Because they were a proud, defiant, heroic people and because Neville Chamberlain had insanely given an unsolicited war guarantee to Poland. If Hitler invaded, Chamberlain told the Poles, Britain would declare war on Germany.

From March to August 1939, Hitler tried to negotiate Danzig. But the Poles, confident in their British war guarantee, refused. So, Hitler cut his deal with Stalin, and the two invaded and divided Poland.

The cost of the war that came of a refusal to negotiate Danzig was millions of Polish dead, the Katyn massacre, Treblinka, Sobibor, Auschwitz, the annihilation of the Home Army in the Warsaw uprising of 1944, and 50 years of Nazi and Stalinist occupation, barbarism and terror.

Hitler had not wanted war with Poland.

War? Furthest thing from his mind, he had only militarized his country and invaded Czechoslovakia... who would have thought old Adolph was thinking of war in such a situation?

Ja, ja—Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei.

Which was to address the “out of work” workers, many of whom were patriotic WWI veterans of the disaster Weimar Republic. And the Krupps and Theissens et al of the Ruhr Valley thought they could control Hitler as he “controlled” the labor force, as they also secretly and not so secretly shared Hitlers nationalistic views (which also served to stoke the furnaces of war production and govt. contracts— the mil/industrial complex of its day)

Video is not available — content. You are quite right— between what Hitler did in Poland to the Katyn massacre by Stalin... Poland suffered more than most of the rest of Europe. Loss of some of the greatest math and science minds of the century, and generational loss of a proud and loyal people. Hitler and Stalin have a lot to answer for— and they are burning in eternal fire now, I believe.

Pat merely makes the observation that absolute refusal to negotiate with mortal enemies can, itself, be fatal

I think he is wrong. Good compromising only benefits evil.

Poland was always going to be invaded. Even if Poland habded over the Free City of Danzig Germany was going to invade Poland.

His argument is not that Hitler's demands were reasonable, just that it was in Poland's best interest to accept them(compared to the alternative what happened). You may disagree with that assertion, but that's not even Pat's main point

But it is the most ridiculous point.

If they had handed over the Free City of Danzig and the corridor, Hitler would have militarized it and used it as a front when they did invade Poland, which would have still been inevitable.

Then again, Hitler wanted Russia

The UK, France, Denmark, Norway, North Africa, Poland were all just on the way to Russia, got it.

Adolf Hitler at Pilsudski's funeral in 1935.

Hitler even had an honor guard posted at Pilsudski's gravesite in Krakow when the Germans invaded in 1939. Which leads to an intriguing "what if". What if Pilsudski survived to 1939. Would Poland have forsaken Britain and France to join the Anti-Comintern Pact? Would Poland have gotten a piece of the action in the East in exchange for returning Danzig and the Corridor to Germany?

All window dressing by the paleo-Pagan Hitler. Look at the bastard sitting there for the photos—all the while with his psychotic mentality of “his” religion— ie. himself, the narcissist-who was a nobody until this power was seized by him. The State was everything to this socialist/dictator and the State imprisoned everyone who got in their way. Especially Poles, of every denomination- Catholics who resisted, Jews of course, gypsies and anyone else. Having killed the parents, the blond hair blue eyed illegitimate babies of the SS were “placed” in the Lebensborn program for anonymous adoption of the “aryan” race.

Contrast this with Josef Stalin, a Georgian who was an okhrana spy for the Tsar, bank robber, and who was a “nobody” in the eyes of the Great Russians of the Tsarist nobility, who in his entire life lived in fear of being found out (and was, by Lenin) by his commie thug rivals— in a revolution funded and supported by the Kaiser and Germany. What irony.

Hitler’s racial theories were total utter insanity, genetically and otherwise, a “new-science” to replace the old religion of the stupid masses. Straight out of Marx— and virtually NO different than marxism. The Nazis took all comers in their net of Statist marxist-socialism that was morphed and abetted by Fascism. This is how it happened. Our NWO rinos and dhimmocrats are playing the same “State is superior” game and obamaumao is yet another example of how a facile narcissist with a stupid racially identifying/balkanized/class warfare electorate can become a dictator. Freedom is just one generation away from being destroyed for all of us (blacks who get in the way, too)— and we have to fight to keep it at all times. We must stand fast.

Pat Buchanan was speech writer. He could not run a lemonade stand. He missed his time as a pro-nazi IRA member in the 30’s.

One wonders how he relegates his Catholic faith with the clear anti-Catholicism, anti-Christian Statism of the Nazis— the equal opportunity destroyers of all and any religion except the Nazi State and Hitlerism.

It is just such idiotic statements as this one that gives away where Buchanan would have fit in pre-WWII Germany/Europe. Also exemplary of why our Founding Fathers designed the US to be free of European styles of government— wonderfully exhibited today by the EU (the dream of the nazis and marxists realized after so much death and destruction— and now they have their eyes on us, the U.S.)

I am sure if the Danzig corridor had been annex back to Germany then it would have been all unicorn farts and skittles.

Hitler's Croat and Slovak pals were Catholic.

Depends on who you compare him to.
Compared to Stalin, Mao, Genghis Khan, and Pol Pot, Hitler was okay.
Compared to mere gangsters, mafioso, and politicians he was demonic.

Oh, yes. Recalling Lenin’s letter to his minions of the usefulness of muslims in the subjugation of the Ukraine— and they helped the NKVD seize the kulak’s property and food and implements....and then Lenin killed off the muslims, too (even the “loyal” communists). Again, always... the State. The State always the accuser, never the accused.

What is startling in all this discussion is to hear the same voiced concerns from the ultra-Left (like Chomsky). The brilliance of our Founders was in knowing and designing how to contain the State and tyranny.

Funny... you mention Pat Buchannan on this forum and it sends FRbloggers into hysterics. Reminds me of the horses when the words “Frau Blucher” is mentioned.

Worth a good look at Padraig’s modus operandi and history. Speechwriters who think they know history or that they can lead have a special kind of egoism that fascinates, particularly when the ole buggeraboo herr ‘dolph is the topic.
