US actor George Takei is to wed his long-term partner after California lifted its ban on same-sex marriage.

Takei, 71, best known for playing Mr Sulu in Star Trek, said he and Brad Altman were going through the "delicious dilemma" of where to marry.

The actor and 54-year-old Mr Altman have been together for 21 years.

"We can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage. We embrace it all heartily," Takei wrote on his website.

There are no gay characters in the Star Trek franchise because by the time StarFleet was formed, homosexuality was cured.

I guess Sulu and his ‘partner’ have an entirely different trouble with tribbles.

I’ve seen him in one other place. He was one of John Wayne’s co-stars in “The Green Berets.”

I sometimes wonder if Duke knew about Takei, or about Rock Hudson, his co-star in “The Undefeated.”

George (Sulu) Takei in 'Secret Talents of the Stars'

By CRISTINA KINON
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Tuesday, April 8th 2008, 4:00 AM

Vote for George Takei and his country-singing skills on Tuesday night's premiere of "Secret Talents of the Stars" (CBS/Ch.2, 10 p.m.), and he may be convinced to pursue a new line of work.

"If I survive this, who knows what doors could open," Takei told the Daily News. "I could go on tour, have a whole new career; we shall see.

"We will boldly go where we've never gone before."

He was in one other film that I can recall. A misbegotten, better forgotten space western, in which he played the drunken town doctor role. The film was called "Oblivion." and it was as weird as it was awful.

I doubt it. Back in the Duke's day, at least in the middle years, 'the love that dare not speak it's name" was a hush-hush thing. You kept it quiet...or else.

I never could stand Rock Hudson, even when everyone seemed to think he was so wonderful. I finally found out why.

I think that there were some back then who were known, or at least heavily suspected. Two that come to mind were Liberace and Peter Lorre.
