As a newspaper reporter who talks daily with mid level reporters, I can say first hand that the bulk of the 'reporting' media (as opposed to the column writers and pundits) have been scouring the nation the past three years in search of any story ... ANY thing... that makes the Bush GOP crowd look guilty of disaster.

I hear it every day from people who ask breathlessly, "why doesn't some good conservative Republican make a speech and set things right."

Well the truth is, many Republicans do offer solutions and make comments.

But the 'reporting' media, the AP, ABC news, Reuters, Breitbart, Yahoo News, Google News, UPI ---- will not report any good thing a conservative says.

If a tree falls in the forest, and no one hears it, did it really happen.

In the world of Republican vs Democrat politics.... the answer is a resounding NO.

You're 100% right about this...

I somehow cannot buy that. There is enough influence out there that could make it happen on SOME show. FNC is open to GOP. Why not there?

The problem goes beyond someone making a speech. The problem is that the GOP has abandoned any pretense of having a coherent set of values and it shows. Until the Republican Party takes up the mantle of reason, individualism, and capitalism, it's going to continue to fail.

Good points. You can't do it that way, though.

The way to accomplish what you want is by ATTACKING. You can't make "your" good points and "set things right." There isn't enough time. You have to go on offense, everyone on the same page, and attack by name.

See, this is what Bush, and by extension, all of the GOP, refused to do: attack Dems by name. They should have been saying in 2003, "Tom Daschle is a traitor who is trying to kill our soldiers." Or today, "Nancy Pelosi is an incompetent who is burning up American tax dollars and causing YOU to pay $4 a gallon of gas."

Say this not once, or twice, but have EVERY Republican who is interviewed in any setting hammer Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama. Roman Senator Cato used to end every speech, no matter the subject, with the same phrase, "Carthage must be destroyed," so no one would forget what the #1 priority was. We need to have that same focus.

Don’t lay the blame of the gutless, spineless republican failures on the media. This crap is self-inflected.

The media is what it is, and while complaining about them is certainly justified, it is also useless. It’s a problem conservatives are just going to have to deal with, and it’s one they’ve had decades now to figure out.

It’s going to take more than good ideas. It’s going to take leadership, something that’s sorely lacking in the Republican Party and in the conservative movement right now.

They’d probably be more likely to report it if the Republicans were making their opening statements with a can of political whoopass against their opponents.

Democrats are ruthless in their lies and disinformation while Republicans aren’t exactly spunky even when the truth is on their side.

Make a few waves and it’ll get attention. And for God’s sake, don’t apologize and back down when the Democrats WHINE about what you’ve said!

Only the President has the power to talk over the MSM's heads. Ronald Reagan did it all the time and oh, how they hated him for it.

Bush has made some good speeches, but they are always to some audience that the MSM deems ignorable. The recent "appeasement" jab at Jimmy Carter only got airplay because Obama decided to act like it was aimed at him.
