Ron Paul Hopes to Crash McCain's Party
ABC News ^ | 5/13/08 | Marcus Barum

Sen. John McCain, taking a victory lap as the presumptive Republican nominee, happily poked fun at his only remaining opponent.

Asked during an appearance on "The Daily Show" last week which of the two Democratic nominees he preferred to run against in the general election, McCain quipped, "Ron Paul."

But Paul might get the last laugh during McCain's coronation at the party's convention in early September.

McCain's nomination may be certain, but he finds himself pressured by different wings of the conservative movement -- from the libertarians and the anti-war activists, to social conservatives and evangelical voters.

Why don’t you just vote for a president who upholds the principles of the concept of America?

Great post. Unfortunately it will probably fall on deaf ears (or rather blind eyes) judging from some of the comments on this thread. There are way too many on FR who are willing to allow their children to be eaten by the wolves just so that the foxes don’t get in the hen house.

How about start with telling the truth. Then we can talk about liberty.

Problem with you, sir, is that you may be just too principled and ethical for some of the usual RINO hacks and Republican-Firsters here on FR.

Thank you, and you. This is the kind of debate I'd like to see more of. I might suggest that someone start it as a separate post, in fact. I think this specific topic is far too underaddressed not to.

If I'm mostly silent now, it's because I want to watch to see where the thread goes from here. I'm listening.

"To say there is no difference between the two is a damn lie."

But don't ya' know...Anti-McCain Freepers are gonna' stand by their PRINCIPLES...regardless of the consequences of an Obama presidency...which, don't ya' know, is a GOOD thing to them!

Sheesh...

I’m tired of hearing these people crying about McCain voting against the tax cut when that is not the truth.

Correction: he DID vote against the tax cut. That IS the truth. You are merely justifying his reason for doing so- A position I don't share btw.

It’s good to see some common sense around here again. Lately the level of anti-McCain hate has been ratcheted up so high by the bitcons and their Democrat operative buddies that this place was starting to sound a lot like DU.

Why don’t you just vote for a president who upholds the principles of the concept of America?

And who would that be? Because I see one candidate who supports limited government, wants free market solutions, supports a strong military, and wants low taxes and federal spending.

And the other options - Democrat, Libertarian, Conservative Party - don't hold to those principles...

So tell me who YOU would vote for?

Think about the troops. Do you want their Commander-in-Chief to be Obama?

Do you want them to serve under a traitorous, dishonorable, ignoble bastard with a Napoleon complex? That is better somehow?

You make very good points about McCain. I am in the energy industry so his position on the global warming hoax makes my skin utterlly crawl off my body. I am a Texan and his position on illegal aliens makes my skin utterlly crawl off my body.

But as you say, and it is important, "His best selling point is that liberalism would, we think, not advance as swiftly with McCain as with Obama."

I disagree. He was not voting against the cut in taxes. If you wish to parse words, that’s all right with me. But that doesn’t make your position the correct one.

Whatever, Reagan would be backing McCain not Paul.

If Reagan saw what the Baker clan has done to the party, yo can bet the gloves would come off. He would have supported Hunter or Keyes. They carry his legacy.

The truth? Opposite of your claim. You stated:

There is no difference between McCain and Obama

And that is factually, provably a lie. If you cannot discern the truth so provably shown then why do you even speak? Why should anyone pay any attention to you?

Truth is the start of the discussion.

>>>Reagan would be considered a huge RINO by today’s standards.

The crackpot brigade would cry that anybody to the left of Hermann Goering was too liberal. Yet they love a candidate like Paul who is endorsed by Cindy Sheehan and Islamic hatethejews groups. That’s why they are crackpots.

Just a thought, would they be so noticeable a presence if so many moderate FR members hadn’t been purged or otherwise chased away last year. Just sayin’.

No offence to you but my God, why on earth should the greatest country that ever existed settle for anything less than what your amazing founders gave you?
