This is the GOP's third straight special election loss, after Illinois and Louisiana. Somebody better tell the Republicans to start acting like Republicans again.

It’s past time to truly create a Conservative Party while the Republican Party truly dies a slow death. Conservatives need to seriously plan their next moves which will be happening while, at the same time, the U.S. is turned into a third world socialistic country. This may require another civil war to occur. Deny all of this at your own risk, and you will also be indirectly helping the political left to become even stronger for the long-term. For starters, all political correctness all over the world truly needs to be seriously and successfully reversed to the best of human abilities until it’s truly, seriously, and successfully eliminated all over the world to the best of human abilities and for always. We seriously need some big time brainstorming about how to successfully get rid of all political correctness all over the world.

Was the Republican candidate a conservative? If not, where was the conservative? I don't think it's fair to blame everything on RINO on national level (while surely they have the share of it). If conservatives really care about the movement, not simply complaining, they should start from below, bottom up, building a grass root organization and support conservative candidate in local elections. This comment also applies to any 3rd party that claims to be a ‘real conservative’

Tonight, Trent Lott’s retirement from the U.S. Senate has resulted in strengthening the U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Party majority. Governor Haley Barbour gets some credit too for picking the Representative from the MS 1st Congressional District to replace Sen. Lott. Thanks Mississippi Republicans, good job. My wife and I are glad we left that state in 2005.

This is why the folks here who think McCain can win are deluding themselves. They might as well write in Don Quixote. He’s a goner.

There's not enough remaining of the Republican party for even the buzzards to pick at. Thank you Rove, Hastard, Lott, Frist and most importantly that most compassionate conservative himself George W. Bush. We gave them both houses of congress and the presidency and what did they give us (conservatives), the coming biggest ass whipping in my lifetime and I'm 61.

Can anyone give me a reason to be optimistic about this fall? Sure, McCain could pull off a win if Obama killed his lover or something, but we’re still going to be facing a very far-left Congress. Everything is going to be discarded in favor of a lite form of marxism and universal healthcare. The Left won’t stop until they’ve trashed everything from the Constitution to our latest reconnaissance satellite program. All in the name of “the people”. God help us all.

Good news if you ask me. It is good to see true conservatives telling the party bosses to go pound sand. WE WANT REAL CONSERVATIVES.

This result is awful if not predictable. We cannot say “gee the GOP just happened to run a really bad candidate.” There is much more going on and none of it is good. This is the third “safe” seat special election we have lost.

As far as the democrats in these special election districts being conservative that may be true on social issues but don't count on it when it comes to economic issues. These “conservatives” just elected a democrat who just promised them free money in one form (welfare checks, agricultural subsidies, a job, etc.) or another.

Also don't forget that once these blue dog democrats get to DC they will vote as they are told to vote by the party power structure, which is to the left. The power structure will allow them to vote to the right on meaningless bills here and there. This way the congressman can go home and claim to constituents during reelection time to have voted against Kennedy or the little congressional black crybaby caucus 20% of the time. This “proves” they are independent and not a shill for the America haters.
