An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.
Mandarin is indeed hard..I understand that its sharp difference from Latin phylum puts a very big barrier for man like you.
But just keep on.
I am going to tackle with my graduation thesis, for time is very tight now,and there still need some revisions on codes in my project.
Chat in the future.
And bless to those in sufferings.
There are many different threads posted about the earthquake, this just happened to be the first one. Go to the top left of the page and enter "China Earthquake" where it says search. I think you are very smart, Communion.
Hi ozarkgirl, we don’t want to make you feel that so many Chinese are making enemy with you. We think in different ways. More communication will make our heart and mind closer.
Some aidmen slapped themselves to keep clear headed.
Mandarin is what ?
So........you don't put cream cheese inside fried wontons? ;)
I think you can take it as a synonym as Chinese, but it’s for spoken language. It’s the offical spoken language in China, also called Putonghua.
Very interesting about the relationship between dam and quake:
One of the greatest fears is that the dam [Three Gorges Dam] may trigger severe earthquakes, because the reservoir sits on two major faults: the Jiuwanxi and the ZiguiBadong. According to Fan, changing the water level strains them. “When you alter the fault line’s mechanical state,” he says, “it can cause fault activity to intensify and induce earthquakes.”
Many scientists believe this link between temblors and damscalled reservoir-induced seismicity.....

That's very interesting. Is this where the epicenter was? This was a shallow quake as well.
Thanks for your understanding,I am very glad to meet you.

Thanks first for your concern about our safety, I sign-on again to show that I’m safe and have not been arrested ^_^(also won’t be) because what we are posting here are the real things but not the fake and wrong. I know the lack of the communication can lead to misunderstanding, the men have been detained jsut because they made-up the news, It’s real a law, not politics topic; also I’d say that we have the freedom for talking about whatever we want than ever before.
Maybe you do not know how large the Netizen is in China currently, the statistics shows it is about 210,000,000 (by CNNIC, Jan-17-2008). Yeah, it is true that the GFW exists here, but for people with the ability to distinguish and judge the info they received by themselves, the GFW is transparent with the Proxy help (either through the proxy web or the professional proxy tools, simply can get the IP from the daily-refreshed web www.proxycn.com).
No worries about the Chinese people who were here but not posted anymore, I believe they are just busy for something else but not arrested.
Till now, the deaths is 14866, and more than 20000 are buried. China is now trying all the best to save more.
The most difficult is that some areas can not get the clean water, good, medicare in time cause the roads was destroyed.
We thanks those who pray for us especially for the children, thank you !
seems last post does not appear as expected, maybe just be delayed (wonder how long), so I post it again...
