An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).

Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.

I know that, but they realy deserve that. Again I don’t work for the gov, but an America Company. Their behavior (publishing rumors) just increases the panic of the people.

They deserve to be arrested for publishing pictures because it creates more panic in the people?

In America we have the 1st Amendment, the first right we have been given is the right to free speech. I am flabbergasted that you think it's ok to arrest someone for publishing pictures that are real and true because they would "increase the panic of the people". Amazing.

They weren't publishing rumors, they were taking factual pictures. How do you get rumors out of that?

I’m not saying what you said isn’t right, I’m saying what was reported to us is that 2 people were arrested. One was arrested for taking pictures out of their area. That the area was shut down to all but government officials.

I don’t know which one of you to believe. Considering the one’s reporting what I thought was the truth are now shut down, I’m thinking they are probably right. How confusing.

And they are only in custody for only 3 days by some law and asked to apologize on the site they post the wrong information which may cause chaos and horror.

there are many pics on almost every forum in china now.Do you know ,almost 600，000，000 cellphone ownd by chinese people,many of them have the ability to photograph.And you can find any picture of the very happened things all over the forum of china.Posting true and legal pics or news is of course allowed,or half of Chinese would be arrested.So dont too worry about us.

in the constitution of China, we also have the right to free speech. How do you they were taking factual pictures? The pictures are already been recognized was not as they declared. I will provide you more infor about it after work.

I’m back, today the government finally allowed Japanese rescue team to enter the region...Now it is 2hours to 72hours...the so called “golden time” for SAR...I don’t see much chance for those buried alive under debris...sad.....
