An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.

You are an US citizen for 20 years, your mind of China is still in the past just like almost innocent American. 20 years ago we still have USSR in the world, we were in the Cold War. 20 years ago I am only 5, chinaboy has not to be born. 20 years ago we dave no traffic lock in cities. 20 years ago we even have few of color TVs. World is changing, China is changing. Do you know where I can get the news of “sumptuous gov building”? In Tianya.cn, also in CCTV, in our national TV programme. You were a Chinese but not living in for 20 years, every talk you said is presumably. The goverment of China may have defects, we citizens are able to criticize these defects. But it’s impropriety
to say the gov is irresponsible, it’s impropriety
to say we are under brainwashing nowadays, either. I wrote in the 442 post, no one can wash your brains in a society have Online Games, 24hs lived news, punks, 7-11, web forums
and so on.
The news’ heading is “Children killed in eathquake”, the fact is every building in Wenchuan and Beichuan has been broken, including the goverment’s building. A misleadingly point of view is that only schools broken down, no, not only. A general sense is: Schools and hospitals are crowding in daytime, more than 1,200 students in one building is normal in Chinese schools. School is a focus in the disaster, but it doesn’t mean other buildings are safe. In fact, the building of the government in Beichuan, Wenchuan are Deyang have all been destroyed, officials killed in the earthquake, too.
Well, your mileage may vary.
is there any building damage picture of Wenchuan yet?
Why I am here is because of your kind words and well-meaning bless. if all of Americans act like this, we will appreciated it very much.
People in the other district are spontaneously donating money and materials to those suffer, for example, there have been already over 500,000,000 RMB donated by various enterprises in China. Although I am still a poor student, I also donated 200 RMB to the disaster area, which I hope could help a little.
About religious matters, one must noticed that there is a sharp disparity between China and the western. China is the only nation in this world that in her history of over 5000 years there have never been an estate of clergyman. In its long history of feudalism China was always ruled by a emperor, the influence of religion has been very limited, which is the same even in today. It is true that we have little religious belief, yet we believe in the common humanity based on which our nation can evolve and prosper.
BTW, as for the matters in Tibet, you can refer to a lot of facts that there is no persecution on the belief of Lama. If you have ever been in Tibet, you will find that people there is quite happier than before, and they are free to believe in any religions.
As for political persecutions, I am sorry that I have little idea of it. But I have also read a lot of papers relating to this matters, which makes me to believe that government at itself have its own drawbacks, that granting power to several persons will eventually makes unfairness. But as I observed, China government is learning and improving. Believe that we are try to make it better, OK? We really hope that the pain of 89 Tian’anmen square and 66~76 culture revolution will never rehappen. We are trying, please believe in us.
NO ONE CAN ENTER WENCHUAN NOW.SO PLA ARE AIRBORNING NOW.

yes, hope they can been saved.

I do believe some of you are trying to make things better. I also believe the photos I saw of the massacre in Tibet. I’ve seen other evidence of religious and political persecution. But I don’t wish to change the direction of this thread. This is about the earthquake, and helping to minimize the damage and help the victims. Let’s not make it about politics.
CCTV Live (here in the USA) is showing some photos now of Wenchuan - I looks like many of the building are standing.
have to go, gotta some more work to do, I’ll be back with you guys as soon as possible. god bless, and prayers for the people of sichuan
