“Young children don’t leave your site for a moment unless they are in the house and it’s child proofed.”

In the last three days in my neck of the woods there was one mom who went into the kitchen to “get a soda” and her baby died in the bathtub. Another toddler was rescued by a firefighter from a burning apartment and into the hands of mom who had “stepped outside for a minute”.

And take it from me - no house is child proof! (I was a kid, and I’ve seen what MY kids were able to get into!)

Those two kids you mentioned, I don’t think their moms acted appropriately. I doubt you do either.

There is some truth in what you say about child-proofing. There is only so much you can do. Still, you don’t leave caustics or other dangerous items under the sink. You don’t leave knives down low. You take reasonable measures to reduce as much as possible, the danger they are exposed to.

Kids will be kids. That’s true.
