LAUREN RICHARDSON - YOU CAN HELP!
By Judie Brown

It has been a source of ongoing sadness to read of the difficulties Lauren Richardson’s father has had over the course of the past several months. For those of you who are not familiar with her case, Lauren overdosed on heroin on August 28, 2006. She suffered oxygen deprivation and, as a result of the overdose, is now in a coma and unable to speak out for herself. At the time of the overdose, Lauren was expecting a baby. Her parents honored what they knew would have been her wish and did all they could to keep her healthy and comfortable until the child was born. Today, though Lauren may not be aware of it, she is the mother of Ember Grace, who was born in February 2007.

Since the birth of her daughter, Lauren remains unable to speak of her concerns, but she has a loving father who is doing all he can to protect her from suffering the same fate as Terri Schiavo. However, Lauren’s mother, who has been named her legal guardian, is sadly not of the same opinion and is working with attorneys to pressure the courts to permit Lauren’s starvation.

Lauren’s father has kept hope alive, even at times when there appeared to be no hope in human terms. Lauren’s father is a man of hope in Christ and is dedicated to spending every breath he has on defending Lauren, regardless of what it might cost him in physical exhaustion and worldly goods. The most recent update for those concerned about Lauren tells us the following:

We struggle at times as we seek to share with the public the details of what is happening with Lauren because of the disagreement we have with Lauren’s mother. We cannot understand her reasoning in refusing a path of hope, healing and restoration for Lauren and insisting on causing her death by withholding food and water from her. The issue in Lauren’s case is the eternal truth that all people, no matter what their medical condition, bear the image of God and deserve basic care and an opportunity to be restored to health.

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo’s brother, has written about Lauren in an editorial earlier this year, "False Compassion," and is working closely with Lauren’s father in order to provide expertise that he is uniquely qualified to share during a trying time like this.

There are many links on the Life for Lauren web site that will assist you in tracking this case and learning who is supporting Lauren’s ongoing care and who is opposing it. More importantly, there is something you can do to express your concerns.

ACTION NEEDED NOW

The governor of Delaware, Ruth Ann Minner, is being asked by pro-life Americans across this nation to intervene in this case in order to save Lauren from what many fear is an imminent court order dictating that Lauren be starved and dehydrated to death. I am asking you to be one of those who communicates your passionate belief that Lauren’s life is sacred and deserves to be protected from those who would order her death. The governor’s e-mail address is governor.minner@state.de.us.

Further, it would mean a great deal to Lauren’s father, Randy, if you sent him a copy of your e-mail to Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Randy’s e-mail address is Lifeforlauren@aol.com

During a recent visit to Anchorage, Alaska where Bobby Schindler was invited to speak, he told a reporter from The Catholic Anchor, "Once we accept that killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering, we lose any type of parameters. Euthanasia is a form of abandonment. It is not compassion."

Truer words were never spoken. As I frequently tell people who argue that we pro-lifers are being heartless and cruel for fighting to defend the rights of a "hopeless case," "God is the author of every human being’s life, and He has never given permission to a single one of us to arbitrarily rob another human being of life for any reason including disability or illness."

As Flannery O’Connor once wrote on the subject of false compassion, "In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber."

Lauren Richardson is not terminal – she is severely disabled. Lauren Richardson should not be murdered.

The court case concerning the euthanasia death of 71 year-old Graeme Wiley, who was mentally incompetent from Alzheimer’s disease, by his partner 59 year-old Shirley Justins is uncovering some important and very sad facts about the case.

The Crown is seeking a conviction for murder against Justins, while Justins has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aiding and abetting Wiley’s suicide.

Under cross-examination, Justins admitted that:
•she had a financial conflict of interest and Wiley’s death relieved her from her obligation to care for him.
• she admitted that she deliberately misled Wiley’s lawyer when she failed to tell him that Wiley had Alzheimer’s disease and was incompetent to make personal decisions. Wiley changed his will to give most of his estate to Justins less than a month before his death.
• she admitted that Wiley didn’t remember that he had daughters during his assessment in December 2005 which was four months before he changed his will to replace his daughters as the primary beneficiaries of his two million dollar estate.
• she also admitted that she paid 75-year-old Caren Jenning, more than $2,000 to get the drug (Nembutal) from Mexico for Mr Wiley.

Jenning has pleaded guilty to importing the euthanasia drug from Mexico but has pleaded not guilty to being an accessory to murder or aiding and abetting in a suicide.

Many people think that euthanasia and/or assisted suicide should be legal to give people a choice as to when and how their life should end.

The reality is that by legalizing euthanasia and/or assisted suicide society is then changing the law by allowing a person to be directly involved in taking another person's life. Justins was able to fool Wiley’s lawyer into changing his will, even when he had mid- to late- stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Is it never possible to protect vulnerable people when the prohibition for killing others has been removed.

Some would say that we should legalize assisted suicide and then regulate it in order to protect vulnerable people from similar circumstances.

The reality is that vulnerable people are highly dependent on others for their basic care. It is for this reason that their would never be a regime whereby the vulnerable will be protected from legal assisted suicide.

Even Dr. Philip Nitschke, Australia’s leading euthanasia agitator, admitted to turning a blind eye to the fact that Wylie was incompetent to decide to die by euthanasia. So much for the idea that euthanasia and assisted suicide should made available to competent persons only.
Go to: http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2008/05/nitschke-hell-bent-on-assisted-suicide.html

Finally, many people say, There have been no abuses in the State of Oregon, where assisted suicide is legal, so why would there be abuses in other places?

The reality is that in 2007, 49 people died by assisted suicide in Oregon and none was sent for psychiatric or psychological assessment.

Since the Oregon reports are based on the information that is gleaned from the assisted suicide reports that are sent in from the physician who prescribes assisted suicide, and since those reports are destroyed after the report is published, therefore we will never be able to prove that Wiley type cases are not happening in Oregon.
Go to: http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2008/05/physician-assisted-suicide-pas-in.html

Those who favor the right to die need to re-think their position. The Wiley case is the prime example of why euthanasia and assisted suicide should never become legal because it is a direct threat to the lives of the most vulnerable members of society.

Our son was born handicapped there. Eugene these days sets the standards fo The Oregon Health Plan offered to pay for Barbara Wagner to have assisted suicide or palliative care but they weren’t willing to pay for the effective treatment that was prescribed by her oncologist for her recurring lung cancer

http://www.registerguard.com:80/csp/cms/sites/dt.cms.support.viewStory.cls?cid=106873&sid=1&fid=1

The State of Oregon manages its health care dollars by determining which treatments that they are will pay for with State healthcare dollars.

Barbara Wagner was prescribed a drug to treat her lung cancer by her oncologist. After being prescribed the recommended cancer drug, the State Health Plan informed her that they would not pay for the treatment.

In the letter informing Wagner of that they would not pay for the necessary cancer treatment they indicated that whey would cover palliative, or comfort care, which included assisted suicide.

“I think it’s messed up,” Wagner said

She was particularly upset because the letter of denial said that doctor-assisted suicide would be covered.

“To say to someone, we’ll pay for you to die, but not pay for you to live, it’s cruel,” she said. “I get angry. Who do they think they are?”

The language in the letter referring to Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act comes out of the Health Service Commission’s statement of intent under examples of comfort and palliative care, said Dr. John Sattenspiel, senior medical director for LIPA.

“I understand the way it was interpreted,” he said. “I’m not sure how we can lift that. The reality is, at some level (doctor-assisted suicide) could be considered as a palliative or comfort care measure.

The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition is also concerned that the Oregon State Health Plan views assisted suicide and palliative care as similar health care services. Good palliative care allows a person to live until they die, whereas assisted suicide only causes death.

Once assisted suicide is viewed as a medical treatment, then it is always an option, even when good treatment or care is available.

Wagner is receiving treatment, but not due to the recognition by the State of Oregon that her life was worth living but rather because the pharmaceutical company has offered her the Gift of Treatment by providing the drug for Wagner at no cost.

This case should be an example of what happens when assisted suicide become legal.

Oregon has a genuine “death care system” (my term from a few years back). It’s a good thing they are up against The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition.

Let's not forget SCOTT THOMAS, a Floridian who's alive today because the judge in his area made his mother guardian instead of his wife "Liza Doolittle". Liza was eager to pull Scott's feeding tube on the heels of Terri's state sponsored murder. It backfired because the judge didn't want to be the next www.judgegeorgegreer.com.

Governor Minner, don't be a Jeb. Please keep Lauren Richardson off of disability's death row.

APPARENTLY, KAREN has to prove to the judge that she is competent to decide if she should live or die. If she's not competent to make a decision, THEN THEY WILL KILL HER. If the judge thinks she is competent "to decide, then she gets to live. That's absurd.

Are we now going to start starving and dehydrating people deemed incompetent by a panel of one judge without due process (like Terri)? That's a cliff dive, as opposed to a slippery slope. Before it was PVS. Now it's competency???? There are millions of incompetent people and many of them are politicians I might add. Anybody think Charlie Crist will make a KAREN'S LAW? It would never happen. The judges who offed Terri are his heroes.

KAREN WARD imo is being overmedicated. Take away those meds and I bet that she might be able to learn to talk. They're pain meds. If she can feel pain, she's not in a coma. If she can't feel pain, then by drugging Karen, they are making her lethargic and non-responsive. (he sounds like a Mikey to me.) FV

from WND: Karen's mother claims strong pain medication makes her dip in and out of consciousness, and Rodowicz said, "[P]eople wake up from comas. ... She's certainly not in a vegetative state."

I guess this judge missed the part of the Bill of Rights which MANDATES a grand jury indictment and a trial by jury before ANYONE can be deprived of their life.

It’s going to be “by committee” probably packed with Felosers and Deathknells (Bushknell). What concerns me is that one Karen Ward from Florida used to freep here bk in 2003 or we posted her emails here that supported Terri’s Fight. If it’s the Karen Ward I remember, she DEFINITELY was against starvation/dehydration state sponsored killing. No wonder hubby doesn’t want a media circus if it’s THE KAREN WARD WHO WAS IN TERRI’S FIGHT. Imagine if it’s the same Karen.

BIG CORRECTION: Karen WEBER's life is decided by committee. The Karen many of us know is Karen Ward. Anyway, we'll keep an eye on Karen Weber who's in Naples, FL being overmedicated. I remember Jimmy Chambers was bumped off down that way and he was a tourist who was shipped from a hospital straight to a hospice and next thing you know, he was dead. Jimmy got hurt mowing a lawn.

The Gulf Coast isn't a great place to lose one's ability to speak. Jimmy's daughter or niece posted here for awhile. What torment they cause in Fla. Oregon's suicide laws have nothing on Florida's lawlessness by the judiciary, docs, medical facilities and the ick-secutive branch.

Wag, the WND article has a quote that is specific as to “incompetence”. So, it’s not about “consciousness” any more. If someone is deemed by a hitleresque committee to be incompetent, they can try to starve and dehydrate them. When did they move the bar again????? It was already illegal and immoral but they moved the bar in just three years.

This is the story of Karen Webber, excerpted from World Net Daily. More articles are to follow.

............................

A Florida woman could face death by starvation if her husband has his way and removes her feeding tube.

Karen Weber, 57, was hospitalized after she suffered a stroke in December. Her mother, Martha Tatro is determined to keep her alive, insisting her daughter is alert and does not want her feeding tube removed.

"She doesn't want this," her mother, Martha Tatro, said.

In a case very similar to the Terri Schiavo battle, husband Raymond Weber has taken the issue to court. Raymond argues his wife is in a vegetative state, the Associated Press reports.

In a March ruling, a judge ordered that the feeding tube not be removed and selected a committee to evaluate Karen's condition. She has not created a living will and is unable to speak.

Another Terri Schiavo: Husband battles family Florida man goes to court to remove wife's feeding tube over objection of her mother
