Howard Dean appeared on the Daily Show and said definitively that the Michigan and Florida delegations will be seated. (H/t Scott Jacobs.) The video is here.
Representative quotes:
STEWART: If I were designing a plan to submarine your chances, and again, you dont have to follow my advice here, I would take the state that was, lets say crucial to the Republican election chances lets, lets call it Florida and I would find a way to insult them. Maybe not seat them at the convention, that sort of thing. Then I would pick a Rust Belt state, maybe a Michigan, and say to them the same. Now youve got two states that are angry with you. Do you think that would be a good way?
DEAN: Well, were actually going to seat them at the convention.
STEWART: What?! This is news! Are you really going to do that?
DEAN: Were going to find a way to seat them at the convention.
START: Are you really going to?
DEAN: Yeah.
STEWART: How how can you do that when their results dont count?
DEAN: Well, its a little hard, but were gonna do it.
. . . .
Its gonna be quite a juggling act, but were gonna do it. You cannot have a Democratic convention without Florida and Michigan.
Stewart also asked Dean why Michigan and Florida dont have to follow the rules. Dean replied: They do. Thats why they lost their delegates.
I dont get it either.
Finally, Dean argued that the Democrats system is still more democratic than the [system used by the] Republicans you know, the system where the voters choose all the delegates. Stewart let him get away with that one.
Watch it all, if you can stand it.
Wouldn't that be "as Ashley Alexandra Dupre is to Eliot Spitzer," since Stewart is the Dems' whore?
Whoops, I mean, thanks grellis. :’o
How wrong you are!
Operation CHAOS.
The Dem’s eating each other!
I wonder if insurance companies will start declining new policies or existing coverage increases in inner city ares for the next 3 months?
I think Dean’s decision means the deal is cut and Hillary gets the nomination. She does not need Obama though—way too many negatives...She could pick someone like Joe Biden, smart, likable, sense of humor, always ready with a comeback, just a bit slow connecting the dots..She’ll want someone with few negatives and who can win over some voters to her side..Her choice for VP will make or break her...which means McCain had better pick a Top Gun if he wants any chance of beating her in Nov...
Before his brain exploded Bill Richardson,Hispanic, former Clinton team member, may have been a natural choice of VP for Hillary, but now she wouldn’t even lend him a match to light his own Acme Firecracker..
Not sure how all this happened: if she let one dog out, and let another one in, but she seems to be on a roll now...
bumped for morning.
Hillary probably gains nothing by having Obama on the ticket. She may gain back the black vote but she might lose more of the bitter people Barack offended. As a team they are not unstoppable.
Yes, and then comes democrat civil war. Sit back and have fun.
Florida’s vote should count because both were on the ticket. Michigan’s vote should be redone at the DNCs expense.
Obama should run screaming naked from the VP slot. If he’s not the nominee he’s better off going back to the Senate and putting 4 more years there under his belt.
I know some people close to him who have told me he is almost 100 percent sure not to take it if the situation arises. And I know they are really close to him as Barack and Michelle were at their weddings. (none performed by Rev. Wright).
I have met Senator Obama and he is a good man. Would make a terrible President but he’s a good man. Michelle is more of a bad word than Hillary ever is.
Counting Florida wouldn’t but Michigan would.
What I laugh my butt off at is Obamas people claiming he wouldn’t be fighting as hard for those votes to count if the situation was reversed.
And I’m the Queen of England.
OK, here’s what will happen:
88888
Add to your list - Republicans will be blamed for the Florida decision to hold the early Primary election. (Even though Republicans control the Legislature, the vote was unanimous.)
Michelle is more of a bad word than Hillary ever is.
((((((((
I do not think that a majority of American voters will visualize her in the White House when they vote in November. She has Attitude to the max. Very unpleasant attribute for a First Lady.
well,he’s trying to avoid the inevitable fight
should be fun in denver
I used that word in conversation with my young adult sons the other day to describe Mariah Carey. They gasped. Snews to me, but apparently I may as well have been using the ‘N’ word. Since when?
I hope you're right.
