Howard Dean: Florida and Michigan Delegations Will Be Seated
Patterico ^ | 05/03/2008 | Patterico

Howard Dean appeared on the Daily Show and said definitively that the Michigan and Florida delegations will be seated. (H/t Scott Jacobs.) The video is here.

Representative quotes:

STEWART: If I were designing a plan to submarine your chances, and again, you don’t have to follow my advice here, I would take the state that was, let’s say crucial to the Republican election chances — lets, let’s call it Florida — and I would find a way to insult them. Maybe not seat them at the convention, that sort of thing. Then I would pick a Rust Belt state, maybe a Michigan, and say to them the same. Now you’ve got two states that are angry with you. Do you think that would be a good way?

DEAN: Well, we’re actually going to seat them at the convention.

STEWART: What?! This is news! Are you really going to do that?

DEAN: We’re going to find a way to seat them at the convention.

START: Are you really going to?

DEAN: Yeah.

STEWART: How — how can you do that when their results don’t count?

DEAN: Well, it’s a little hard, but we’re gonna do it.

. . . .

It’s gonna be quite a juggling act, but we’re gonna do it. You cannot have a Democratic convention without Florida and Michigan.

Stewart also asked Dean why Michigan and Florida don’t have to follow the rules. Dean replied: “They do. That’s why they lost their delegates.”

I don’t get it either.

Finally, Dean argued that the Democrats’ system is “still more democratic than the [system used by the] Republicans” — you know, the system where the voters choose all the delegates. Stewart let him get away with that one.

Watch it all, if you can stand it.

I believe Hillary has known about Wright for a long time. The timing of his exposure was a master stroke.

The Wright card was played a month ago. and while it created a dent it didn't stop the Obama train.

But then Wright decided to go freestyle and repeat the same racist, conspiratorial nonsense. This forced Obama to go 2-for-2 in the disowning department. First his grandmother with the dishonest rendition of her being accosted by an aggressive black panhandler and the attempt to make a moral equivelance with Wright (this after Obama having "cleansed" himself of his white grandmother - no mention of her on his website) and now disowning the formerly non-disownable Wright for saying the exact same tripe that Obama said he disagreed with but couldn't disown Wright because of them.

The only way the Clintons get to claim a masterstroke is if somehow they got Wright to go public with the same crap as before either by direct intervention or a clever surrogate that convinced Wright that he was being dissed to the point that he had to respond or playing to Wright's vanity of becoming THE national black leader.

Her odds of winning the nomination are 50/50.

Not according to the futures markets. Her contract is trading at $23. Those as some pretty long oddss.

I expect to see rioting in Denver, and angry outbursts and just plain violence...Do you really think that after the past few months of nasty fighting, and REV Wright that FL and MI are going to be dummys in a seat for Dean? Didn’t they have a blowout in the 60’s at one of their conventions? These are radicals, and they will act like radicals.

If Florida and Michigan are seated at6 the convention, and their votes are counted, there will be riots in the streets because The Magic Mulatto will not get the nomination.

The Party Elite is realizing that Obama is getting increasingly toxic. But the super delegates cannot just hand the nomination to Hillary without paying a political price (remember that most of them are elected officials in places with large pro-Obama constituency).

So by this means, they give the nomination to Hillary without having to be accountable (Dean can do it because he's not elected)

I think the subtext of Operation Chaos is that if a Dem wins, it’s far preferable that it be Hillary.

Welcome to FR.

I agree, Michelle is a total disaster, beyond redemption. Barak may or may not be a “good man,” but there’s a place for him to do a lot of good in the world. NOT in politics though.

I see his as a black Tony Robbins, getting people up off their tushies and into full-out capitalist winner mode. He’d make a ton more money there, wouldn’t have to hang out with sleazes like Rezko and Wright. And most importantly for him, he wouldn’t have to go to work every day. I don’t think he has the physical or emotional energy for that. But weekend workshops with cheering fans seem tailormade for a guy who’s greatest asset is his ability to campaign for office. Not to hold office, to campaign.

I know what was said on the Daily Show, and he did say it.

You don’t need to yell.

My point is Dean was on Fox with Chris Wallace this morning, and the issue of Florida and Michigan delegates, if mentioned in the interview isn’t even on website.

There isn’t much of a media blip about this.

You don’t need to yell.

Nobody "yelled." You indicated you couldn't see the source cited for this posting ("Where is this story?"). I made it easier for you see same. You're welcome, incidentally. ;)

There isn’t much of a media blip about this.

More and more frequently nowadays, the MSM is behind the breaking news curve.

Didn’t they have a blowout in the 60’s at one of their conventions? These are radicals, and they will act like radicals.

There were riots at their Chicago conv., yes, I believe '68?

And you are right about the nature of these people (using the word loosely) -

Years ago, when I was doing investigative reporting for a state-wide paper, I infiltrated a "NO PRESS" meeting of the DSOC (Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee.)

I never saw such chaos. The meeting never got off the ground before it disintegrated in confusion and yelling and gesturing - it was rather comical - Although they didn't think it funny when they they saw the front page story, complete with quotes from their leader - the Majority Leader of the State Senate - a Democrat. I quoted him as opening the meeting with: "I am, as you know," taking a card out of his pocket to wave, "like you, a card carrying Socialist..."

This was in 1980, folks = they planned and systematically and successfully have taken over the old democrat party...We need to start calling them what they are: Socialists.

First, when the primaries were held in Florida and Michigan, public money, not DNC money, was used or wasted if the delegates aren't counted, in my opinion, a form of fraud.

Second, when the primaries were held in Florida and Michigan public money, not DNC money, was used and the Dems were told their votes wouldn't count so alot of them didn't bother to vote. That is a form of voter suppression.

The state and local county election machinery are the ones that supervise and man the vote locations, they are the ones that are supposed to uphold the law about registered voters and no cheating. They are paid via public monies.

Believe me, the government is involved in the primaries. It's not just the political parties. I'm also saying that public monies were involved in these primaries for a certain purpose, and that wasn't to diddle around and try to force those two states into Democrat compliance.

Third, the State has the right to determine how their primary will be held. Ask Washington State and the Supreme Court how that went. Depending on the state you can have open, closed, or a modified blanket primaries.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/355564_scotus19.html

I don't care whether or not the Dems count the votes from Florida or Michigan or not, except that a person at the local and State levels via his vote has a right to be heard. I'm looking at the state and local level, not the DNC Convention level.

I think some sort of fraud charges need to be looked at in those two states because their primary election monies were clearly wasted or because the Dems votes were supressed by their own party when they were discouraged to vote in the primary. Told their vote wouldn't count and now that situation might change and they didn't vote.

Yes, I'm aware of the Electorial College and I'm aware that the delegates can vote for someone other than whom their districts voted for, in theory.

Btw, I will be mostly gone for the next couple of days as I'm studying for finals and I was playing hookey for a bit today.

I do want to apologize for being a bit testy in my response to your reply to me. It's usually better to try to make friends instead of enemies.

If the Democrats count delegates in MI and FL in favor of Hillary, then hopefully Blacks will finally wake up and understand that Democrats have been using them for so long.

Democrats can't do much if they do not have at least 80% of the Black vote.

Kissinger’s decisions during his long tenure for countless US Presidents ultimately cost many millions of lives in conflicts like Cambodia and Vietnam.

Really? So Kissinger was a member of Congress and the Democratic party that cut off all aid to South Vietnam (leading to the Pol Pot rampage in Cambodia, while simultaneously serving as Sec. of State? Wow, he's more powerful and skillful than I ever thought...
