WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has ruled that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights. The decision validates Republican-inspired voter ID laws.

The court vote 6-3 to uphold Indiana's strict photo ID requirement. Democrats and civil rights groups say the law would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots.

Warren Rudman is a close adviser to McCain and he gave us Souter

I think Souter is what McCain believes IS a conservative Justice. He clearly thinks Alito is "too" conservative.

in this article http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080428/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_voter_id they call the 6-3 ruling a "splintered" ruling... no bias there in trying to call it close decision?? heh... loser!

so I like my chances with a SCOTUS pick or two from McCain, instead of Hillary appointing the 'bent one'

If Hillary picked someone like Bill, the Republican Senators, except probably McCain, would fight to stop it. If McCain picked a liberal, highly likely, some Republican Senators, along with all the Democrats, would support it. McCain is a greater danger to a future conservative U.S. than Hillary.

Score another victory for common-sense and conservatism!

This may turn out to be the best SCOTUS in the last 100 years!

But I am still holding my breath for the DC Gun Ban Vote...........

“Democrats and civil rights groups say the law would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots.”

It will also keep the dead people from voting!

They don’t want to ensure the integrity of the voting process, yet the Democrats want to give driver’s licenses to everyone.

Your list is not complete. Arizona requires photo ID and proof of residence.

The old line goes” You might be a Republican when you are alive, but once you are dead you are a registered Democrat”

The REAL effect of this for Democrats centers around COLLEGE VOTERS.

Out-of-State students are NOT allowed to vote in Indiana residents unless they register as Indiana residents, FIRST.

And if they do that, it changes thier entire Aid Packages!!

It WILL have an effect in places like Bloomington or West Lafayette, where Democrats count on that College vote.

The voter ID issue demonstrates how disengenious the left is more than anything else. These same liberals have no problem with demanding photo IDs to purchase a gun, open a checking account, buy a dog or even walk into a government school.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME TO CA AND MAKE PHOTO ID’s A MUST HERE...WE’RE BEING INVADED!!!

All your YELLING is not going to make it happen. No one comes to your state to do you work for you. You have to get involved, petition your representative, run for office yourself and push the change.

To get a clear picture of the voting situation, sign up to be a poll worker. It pays $100 for the day (some employers even provide the day off with pay). They need you and you can see exactly what takes place when people vote.

If all the states had that rule, the dumb-o-crats would lose all their dead voters.

"Will somebody please explain to me why minority races, poor people, and older persons would be less likely to vote if photographic ID’s are required at the polls."

They are not less likely to vote due to the ID requirement. But when the dead voters and the illegal aliens fail to show up at the polls in November (since they don't have valid IDs) this will be the Democratic talking point. They have to say something, and they just can't quite admit what they have been doing for the past 50 years, can they?

Agreed. I cringe to see what he, as a Republican President, would nominate to the Supreme Court.
