I hadn’t heard that the kids were being drugged, poisoned, and dying. Wow. Where did you hear that?>>>>>>
This is the future planned for the children. It is a statistical certainty that some of these children will die in state custody.
A friend of mine was put into foster care growing up. She and her sister were sexually abused there. I hadn’t even recalled that personal side to this issue til now (!), but now the reality hits me even harder when I think about that.
She is a very successful woman—through personal fortitude and determination to overcome what happened to her—and people who deal with forster children often remark on how rare it is for foster-care kids to be such successes as adults. However, I do wonder (okay, suspect strongly) whether her OCD and lack of emotionalism result from the abuse.
Obviously, this doesn’t mean that foster care isn’t better than manyh horrors out there that children would otherwise face, but it does serve as a good reminder that it’s not always the best choice—or without consequences.
