State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said Friday the recently enacted state budget raises spending by more than $5 billion over the previous fiscal year, projects tax revenues that are questionable in a weakening economy and contains $11.5 billion in new debt that will be issued over several years.
"It's clear this budget continues New York's long but not-so-glorious traditions of spending more than the state takes in and borrowing too much," ...
a looming $5 billion deficit... The state employs more than 169,426 workers.
DiNapoli said that without cost-cutting, future budget gaps could reach $9.5 billion in 2011-12.
He noted that none of the new borrowing is voter approved or tied to any comprehensive plan to address the state's "critical infrastructure needs."

Here’s a plan cut a bunch of cop and teacher jobs and let more illegals come in for free services.

"None of the new borrowing is voter approved." THE source of the problem at all levels of Gov't. This includes the unfunded mandates in the form of lavish (By Private Industry Standards) retirement and benefit packages.
The Debt Bomb is ticking and most of these self serving fools continue to ignore it.

And Paterson called for a hiring freeze, do you know what they said to him????
We need to hire more people and we will do it just because we want to and because we can.
My head is going to explode I am getting so frustrated with this frikin state.

The state employs more than 169,426 workers. All of which enjoy very hefty benefits, what a waste.

News report says Alaska will actually have a $9 billion surplus-—and they don’t even have a state income tax.

News report says Alaska will actually have a $9 billion surplus-and they dont even have a state income tax. Just proves the Fair Tax works. By eliminating income taxes, Alaska now has a surplus.
Do you think the Democraps will ever get it?

I can certainly sympathize with you. April 15th of this year marked “New York Tax Freedom Day” for me . . . the last time I’ll ever file a New York State income tax return.

Never lived there. I worked there, and I finally told my company I was moving to our North Jersey office — or leaving. LOL.
