'Chemical Ali' is hospitalized after hunger strike
Jerusalem Post ^ | 4-21-2008

Saddam Hussein's cousin, whose execution has been delayed for months in a complex legal and political battle, has been hospitalized after going on a hunger strike, his lawyer said Monday.

Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali" for the strikes he ordered against Kurds in the 1980s, and co-defendant Abdul-Ghani Abdul-Ghafour were admitted to a US medical facility on Sunday after they passed out, their defense attorney said.

The US military confirmed that al-Majid was hospitalized on Sunday and said he is in stable condition. But it could not immediately confirm the information about Abdul-Ghafour or provide more details.

Al-Majid has been sentenced to hang for his role in a brutal crackdown against the Kurds in the 1980s. He is also on trial in a separate case stemming from the suppression of a 1991 Shiite uprising against Saddam's Sunni-dominated regime.

Defense attorney Badee Izzat Aref said al-Majid, Abdul-Ghafour and 13 other co-defendants in the Shiite uprising trial started a hunger strike on Friday to protest an order forcing them to stay in cramped quarters at the courthouse instead of their regular cells at the US detention facility Camp Cropper.

"...if he's forced to watch Teletubbies on full volume for 22 hours a day, and someone comes in to slap the livin' crap out of him at least twice a day."

That sounds like a plan that might fly with the Iraqis, especially the slapping around part. LOL!

Gosh, I’m really worried about him. To avoid his starving to death, he should be immediately hanged. Or turned over to Kurdish authorities.

I’m with you. I like the idea of turning him over to the Kurds for appropriate disposition.

His nickname *is* “Chemical Ali”. Maybe the Kurds could hold him over a bunsen burner for a while, y’know, before the denouement...

Why don’t they just starve him to death? He already has a good start, and a death wish.

Give the Chemical man a feeding tube with a slow, diluted H2SO4 drip.

“How about we force-feed him an entire rotten pig so that he doesn’t starve to death?”

I don’t think he was particularly devout

“Quite true. The hangmen at the Nuremburg Trials failed to account for the weight the Nazis lost in calculating the necessary counterweight, the result of which had them die slower and more agonizingly. Poor fellows.”

That is the official version of events true. However it is highly unlikely it really was an oversight.

I seem to remember him being reported dead a few times.
