Reynolds: Titanic Day: The Movie to See and the Movie to Miss @ ExileStreet
ExileStreet ^ | 4/16/08 | John Mark Reynolds

I have written two plays for my kids to perform based on the sinking of the Titanic, surely a strange parenting technique, and have been interested in the doomed liner most of my life. One of the plays will be performed this weekend, so if you are near Biola University in Los Angeles, you can get my take on what the sinking of Titanic meant.

For the rest of the cosmos, including the better looking, better educated, and more socially aware that will not condescend to see me cling to my outmoded religion due to economic bitterness by writing a play about the Titanic, there are the movies. [more @ ExileStreet]

I remember two last word utterances from cockpit recorders:

“Oh, shit!”

“We’re going down.”

Emotionless, final.

Re: Is there something wrong with me - I can't stand Leonardo DiCaprio?

The only film I actually liked his acting was in The Aviator where he played a pretty darn good Howard Hughes going slowly nuts.

I must confess I saw the '97 version of Titanic many times.

No! Blackie, you dog... I did not go to drool over all them pretty young gals all wishing Leonardo would live this viewing!

I enjoyed watching him drown... each and every time!

I enjoyed that too. Everytime she would make a new dress out of his rug, or curtains, I was in tears.

In the movie, Wagner goes down with the ship; in real life he partied on the yacht while his wife swam with the fishes...

If you get a chance to see it on Blu-ray, the “D Files” is well worth the price.

You watch the movie and answer questions regarding the original Disney references. If you get it right, it shows you where it came from. At the end, if you get over a certain number of points, you get three more “Special Features”

It’s a blast but we had to go through it a few times to get enough points!

Dang. Does that mean I’m going to have to break down and buy a Blue-ray? I was waiting for them to come down some more.

I could be wrong, but the way I remember it, Wagner was going to stay, but he climbed out to untangle some ropes or something and fell into a boat, or into the water next to a boat—so he survived without appearing craven.

Okay, I'm going to tell you the same thing my hubby told me.
Buy a PS3. The firmware can be upgraded so it won't be obsolete in two years.

BUT! Don't actually buy a single Blu-ray disk until you rent it first. Some of them are without Special Features at all. My hubby bought the Spiderman trilogy and we didn't even get the special features released on the DVDs. I was so disappointed.

New Line Cinema (before it was bought out by Warner Brothers and dissolved this week) put out the Blu-Ray disk that is the Standard by which I judge all others. Hairspray. The sound was exceptional, the video quality was prime (of course) BUT the big deal with this disk was all the special features were 1080p Hi-def and they did a Picture in Picture that gave probably another two hours of behind the scenes. More than the two disk special edition of the DVD (I own that too).

Now I won't buy a Blu-Ray until I see it. Netflix and Blockbuster both rent them!

I didn’t like it at all, despite it being THE chick flick for girls my age, but that’s probably mainly due to my general dislike of chick flicks and my even greater dislike of sad-ending chick flicks (with the exception of Moulin Rouge).

Either story you happen to believe - I still wouldn’t buy a reverse mortgage from him.
