FLDS women seek Texas governor's help
Deseret News ^ | April 13, 2008 | Nancy Perkins

SAN ANGELO — A Texas judge on Sunday ordered law enforcement officials to immediately confiscate all cell phones in the possession of FLDS women and children now housed in temporary quarters here. "I just called to say, hi. They are about to collect the phones, I think," one soft-spoken FLDS woman said during a telephone call to another member of the Fundamentalist LDS Church who was outside of the shelter. "I don't like what they're doing."

Several of the women inside the shelters spoke by cell phone to the Deseret News on Saturday to describe the living conditions there. Children could be heard crying in the background of each conversation. The News published an article on Sunday, quoting the women who complained there was no privacy and that their children were getting sick.

FLDS faithful outside the shelter are convinced Sunday's court order is a direct result of the women speaking to the newspaper.

"This is nothing more than retaliation of Child Protective Services to punish those who were disclosing what is really happening behind the walls of this concentration camp," said Don, an FLDS member who asked that his last name not be used. "These are my family members."

“How about a RICO case, for crossing state lines to subject people to slavery, to rape children too young to give legal (competent) consent, to defraud state welfare agencies, to tamper with witnesses and evidence, etc.?”

what ever it takes, that is lawful.

Heck, just find another child bride who will testify. I am sure there are plenty.

If the original girl doesn't actually exist (i.e., the cops phoned in their own anonymous tip), there won't be any case for anyone to testify to. Fraudulent warrant = inadmissible evidence. And that's a damned shame. It'll mean the perps get to go free and do it all over again in another state.

Please do explain how the government was violating their rights prior to this raid.

I am not sure of your question? In none of my postings have I ever stated that TX violated their 'rights.' My thoughts are they should have gone in earlier, but I accept that they 'watched' and waited til they finally rec'd a 'cry for help' (the cell phone call from the 16 y/o girl the shelter hot line).

Just getting caught up...but from another thread, a poster made an excellent point...

This is going to require 400 dna tests and be a massive genetic puzzle.

As there has been a systematic pattern of lying and changing names, familiar relations, etc., during the interviews of these children/mothers a FReeper suggested 'if you don't want your child taken into foster care you have to claim them and validate your claim by DNA testing.' So the actual birth mothers would have to claim their actual offspring...not their 'sister wives' 'spiritual mom' yada yada yada relationship.

Just thought I would share that here.

You didn’t miss anything but the conviction in the court of public opinion. Courtesy of those whose minds are made up on their perceptions, before the evidence is in. What’s good for Warren Jeff’s is good for the lot it seems.

You don’t give a rats patootie about what is going on here...you want the government to be wrong in this so you can feel smug and self-righteous.

This is so YOU.

A clueless and far more dangerous attitude than the group you have convicted prior to even charges, much less arrest.

It has been 11 days now. She could have come forward during that time and voluntarily identified herself. Despite the fact she is in state custody she may be afraid to do that. She may feel that since she has gotten CPS involved she can now remain silent. Presumably CPS and LEO are interviewing all the girls especially young pregnant ones with a child already. I'm sure they are trying hard to identify her, in that case I'm a bit surprised that someone has not picked up a clue as to which one she is. Finally she may not exist therefore she will not be found (my theory).

I think is embarrassment to this country that such organizations are allowed to practice this in the first place.

You have to be asleep to be unaware who it is that has been allowing polygamy to exist in this particular organization and others for years.

There is a fifty year plus precedent that is going to be nigh impossible to overcome and be just to the thousands of people involved.

makes sense.

I wonder which mothers would object to that? Seems they could claim their birthed offspring, leave, and then assemble later (as in first amendment) with whoever they want outside.

Of courst there might be a fourth amendment issue on this but I think the mob has pretty much used the constitution as kindling for the torches.

As in any ongoing investigation, news is released in drips (which is ok by me)...but it has been said that the name used by the 16 y/o girl (when she received hosptial treatment for the broken ribs from a husband beat down) was give by several girls to the TX authorities during their questioning. Peculiar huh? Substantiates Carolyn Jessop’s claim that from early childhood on, FDLS are taught to mistrust and lie to any outsider. Period. Nice cover for when legal troubles to pop up.

I think the issue is their constitutional rights as citizens were being violated by the group (like with slavery). And the government intervened.

PS,
when responding to someone’s quote, to make it clear it’s is their quote and not your statement, it would help to use basic HTML for italics < then > with an i in the middle, then < / Then > with an i after slash. Makes for much easier comprehension of posts :)

If you use AOL (PaMom hangs head in shame, I do) their ‘openning’ news page shows a forlorn mom picture (just a head shot though, not the ‘official’ Kleenex box portrait.)

Well, most folks I know see the sects as total wack jobs (and many were horrified to find out not only do they still exist but in such high numbers).

Do what ya want with your life, but don’t lie about it or break the law.

Or scam the gov't to finance it via welfare.

When I was doing my 'catching up' reading here, I noticed you took a couple hits on your tagline...I just wanted to say I think it is a 'classic.'

and yet are willing to let these people have NO Constitutional rights by forcing them to live in these conditions, where the rights of one group of people (the men) trump the rights of anyone under their control.

I wonder how I would feel if I were subject to your justice by opinion. As many have tried to make plain, there is no proof of wrong doing yet. No arrests no charges, just a raid and a whole lot of taking of children and women from their homes.

Is it from this one?

Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints grips onto a support post to a residential
cabin on the premises of the Yearning for Zion Ranch in Eldorado, Texas,
Monday April 14, 2008. She told of her 11-day stay in a

“While adult women with very young children remain at the shelter are this time, many of the women were taken back to the compound or to a safe place of their choice.”

How is the distortion that they are being separated coming about? Is it the media?

Actually, you are the one distorting things (again). I don't think you're intentionally misleading, but you really should be more careful in reading--note that it says "VERY YOUNG children..."

Not all children are infants or toddlers. :-)

Note, also, that if a mother wasn't at the ranch at the time of the raid, they won't let her go check on her children.

Also, you might want to read this.
