FLDS women seek Texas governor's help
Deseret News ^ | April 13, 2008 | Nancy Perkins

SAN ANGELO — A Texas judge on Sunday ordered law enforcement officials to immediately confiscate all cell phones in the possession of FLDS women and children now housed in temporary quarters here. "I just called to say, hi. They are about to collect the phones, I think," one soft-spoken FLDS woman said during a telephone call to another member of the Fundamentalist LDS Church who was outside of the shelter. "I don't like what they're doing."

Several of the women inside the shelters spoke by cell phone to the Deseret News on Saturday to describe the living conditions there. Children could be heard crying in the background of each conversation. The News published an article on Sunday, quoting the women who complained there was no privacy and that their children were getting sick.

FLDS faithful outside the shelter are convinced Sunday's court order is a direct result of the women speaking to the newspaper.

"This is nothing more than retaliation of Child Protective Services to punish those who were disclosing what is really happening behind the walls of this concentration camp," said Don, an FLDS member who asked that his last name not be used. "These are my family members."

So bottom line
You’re cool with all this? OK-— nice to know where your mind is.

You don’t band the sect or cult. You just enforce the law. Isn’t that what TX is doing right now?

Government cannot correct all of the evils in a society. To think it should is a utopian concept. Utopian ideals are at the core of Communism, Nazism, and Islamic radicalism. Given the dismal history of governments in the last century, it is better to restrain state power than to use it indiscriminately, even when some good may be accomplished.

A polygamous cult such as the FDLS is immoral and abusive of its members, but the danger from unrestrained government power is greater, even when done with the best of intentions.

You cannot eliminate the problem unless you ban the sect. The state of Texas in this instance has gone well beyond the just pursuit of criminals and the protection of victims by compelling the evacuation of the FLDS compound.

You have the right to your opinion, but I am taking it with a major grain of salt.

Liberty is an inalienable right. It comes before the first amendment or any that follow.

If we in the USA cannot understand something as simple as the enslavement of these young girls in this cult, then we have no right to dictate anything regarding laws.

God given rights are being trampled on. The Constitution DEMANDS that we stop this practice.

WRONG. You eliminate the problem by ceasing the illegal behavior. Prosecution for statutory rape, bigamy, kidnapping, et al puts the current leadership behind bars and dissuades others from taking their place. You can still worship FLDS you just cant break the law.

Another aspect of this perversion is that there is almost certainly incest going on. How can a man with 150 wives keep track of which children are actually his?

Wideawake brought this out in another thread....especially since the female population is ‘home grown’ and they remove all competitive younger males, it quickly becomes incest up close and personal.

PS,
out of all the names listed, I counted roughly 25ish surnames. And some were only listed once, so you’re looking at about 20 fathers with multiple wives/kids (I guess).

How many kids were there?

Further upthread you asked about the birthing facilities and birth certificates....(Im in work/lurk mode so Im a little slow today in responding).

On one of the other FLDS threads it was noted by a TX freeper that the fathers name can be ommitted on a TX birth certificate (not sure if only applicable to illegitimate births or all births). Couple that with the women/girls not knowing their own last or their own date of birth you have the perfect fraudulent socierty. That is why the Temple search was so inflamatory...there has to be an actual ‘record’ somewhere to keep the welfare funds coming its just that the recipients dont really know who they are.

My guess would be to find the compounds midwives...they would be somewhat (for this group) educated and would also be knowledgeable in how the records were kept.

Pentagon funds aid polygamous sect
Posted on Sunday, April 13, 2008 9:34 PM PT

The Pentagon contracts were awarded to Utah Tool & Die and Western Precision, Inc., which operated in Utah. The president of Western Precision was Wendell Nielsen, described in multiple media accounts as a senior official in the FLDS religious sect, whose West Texas compound was raided by police earlier this month as part of a wide-ranging child-abuse investigation. Neilsen disappeared with church leader Warren Jeffs after Jeffs was put on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list in 2003. Jeffs, the sect’s “prophet,” was convicted last year on two counts of rape as an accomplice.

The records show that Western Precision continued to receive government contracts even after the well-publicized manhunt. And when Jeffs was captured in 2006, he was riding in an SUV registered to John C. Wayman, another Western Precision executive.

So how could federal funds have ended up aiding the FLDS church? According to an affidavit filed by Wendell Nielsen’s son in a church-related court case, Western Precision gave the church up to $100,000 a month, a testament to the close ties between the manufacturing firm and the church itself.

"It's one of the darkest secrets of the Warren Jeffs polygamist community.

An especially severe form of birth defect is on the rise and may mushroom in coming generations.

"I don't want to describe it in too much detail," said Isaac Wyler, who was related by marriage to some of the victims. "It's not a real pretty sight."

According to experts and former Jeffs followers, the cause of the birth defect is clear: Intermarriage among close relatives is producing children who have two copies of a recessive gene for a debilitating condition called Fumarase Deficiency.

They predict the scale of the problem will increase dramatically in the future. Wyler, who has lived in the polygamist community most of his life, said he expects residents to continue marrying close relatives.

"Around here," Wyler said, "you're pretty much related to everybody."

Fumarase Deficiency is an enzyme irregularity that causes severe mental retardation, epileptic seizures and other cruel effects that leave children nearly helpless and unable to take care of themselves.

Dr. Theodore Tarby has treated many of the children at clinics in Arizona under contracts with the state. All are retarded. "In the severe category of mental retardation," the neurologist said, "which means an IQ down there around 25 or so."

Birth defect is plaguing children in FLDS towns

BUT, ladies, that's OK...as long as the rights of the adults are secure./s

OK, from my days on the farm, you have to change bulls every so many years to keep down birth defects in the cattle. Since the whole premise of FLDS is some guys uber-alpha-male sick slave fantasy...that ain’t gonna happen.

The other option is recruiting outside females....now THAT I’d pay good money to watch. I don’t know but it’d be a mighty good smack down ;)

Well you’re right about one thing, a tagline that seems to express the opinion that all men on this forum are Brad Pitt, does sail right over my head, if not intended to insult.

Brad and Angolina disgust me to the max. The reference to Aunt B is great. I have no problem with that.

I know you intended it to be a cute line, so don’t read too much into my critism. It doesn’t cause me to think you’re anything other than a person who thought they came up with a cute tagline.

I’m not sure if you realize it, but I have seen many a Christian wear those types of dresses. My fist wife and I used to go out to Griswald Mall to purchase dresses not too dissimilar to that dress, because we actually liked the old school style. Others from all over southern California did the same thing.

Are you saying my wife and I were letches because we found that modest clothing to be attractive? It’s amazing to me some of the things folks read into some of harmless things they have observed in conjunction with this case.

Dont lose sight of the fact (gasp) that cellphones have been taken away./sarc.

Breathtaking isn’t it the human toll..but yet keyboard kommandos will argue that any law enforcement action or intervention is categorically wrong.

Our government may not be able to change attitudes but it can modify behavior.

Agreed. Can we then arrest the Islamic extremists in Dearborn, Michigan, the Communists and left wing radicals in Madison, Ann Arbor, and Boston, the homosexuals in the Mission district of San Francisco and Key West, and dangerous, race baiting characters like Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama's former pastor, or David Duke? You could reasonably make the argument that these people are far more dangerous to society than the FLDS and that their suppression would enhance the social order. The children of Islamic extremists, leftist radicals, and even liberals and black ghetto residents can arguably said to be brainwashed as well.
