Terri Schiavo's Brother: Misinformation About Her Euthanasia Death Remains
Life News ^ | 4/10/08 | Steven Ertelt

Princeton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- Terri Schiavo's brother Bobby Schindler has been on a speaking tour this week that's taking him to colleges and universities across the country. Schindler was at Princeton University on Tuesday and he told students there that misconceptions still exist about his sister's euthanasia death.

Terri died in March 2005 after her former husband won a court order to take her life despite requests from the Schindler family to provide her with medical and rehabilitative care.

Though more than three years have passed since the Schindler family's lost their years-long legal battle to save her life, Schindler says the public still wrongly believes some of the misnomers that appeared in the media.

Though Terri was not on artificial respiration and not in a persistent vegetative state, Schindler told the students many Americans still think that was the case and that Terri had no interaction with his family and that she had some sort of terminal illness.

Though “much confusion still exists about Terri’s condition, Terri was not terminal or dying, and her brain injury was not going to cause her to die,” Schindler said, according to a Daily Princeton report.

He said Michael Schiavo, who is now remarried to the woman he dated during the debate over Terri's life, also made up his mind about Terri's condition without basing his opinion on the facts.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Michael [Schiavo] fabricated the [death] wishes and that his brother and sister did as well and that they perjured themselves in front of the judges,” the newspaper said Schindler said.

Schindler told the students he's worried about the long-lasting effects of the debate surrounding his sister and that more Americans will see disabled people like Terri as a "non-person."

“There is no such thing as a person who is a non-person. There is no one so disabled that they have lost their value or dignity,” Schindler said. He said such a view would be akin to “walk[ing] down the same path that led to the Nuremberg trials.”

“Once you achieve emotional distance from people who are ‘different’ from you, it is easy to look the other way while they are being killed,” he added.

Ultimately, according to the Princeton newspaper, Schindler said Americans need to stand up and fight for the disabled, terminally ill and others who are in jeopardy of becoming the next victims of euthanasia.

“We need to fight today to protect those among us who need our care,” Schindler said. “It’s our dream in the future that legal bigotry against the disabled will be as taboo as insulting someone’s ethnicity."

Mediplex had a Terri Schiavo Day because Terri made such excellent progress at rehab. Mediplex is in Bradenton, Florida. Shortly thereafter, Michael Schiavo cut off ALL REHABILITATION for Terri and subsequently was consorting with JODI CENTONZE, an insurance underwriter that he met at the dentist.

The budget for employees of Fla’s judicial system has been slashed. There will be many layoffs. Among those layoffs will be former employees who will have to be paid hush/severance pay or they could go straight to the media. They may anyway. Florida’s in a recession and rino governor crist’s poll ratings are tanking. He refused to help Terri when he was FL AG and his dept told callers they didn’t have a civil rights dept. For, Terri Schiavo that was certainly true.

You what I find. Terri's supporters who are now Terri's Legacy volunteers enjoy life and still honor the phrase "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

The deathbots lust for misery. They can only find it by ruining other peoples' lives.

We love life such as it is and try to help, not destroy. Bots paint with a broad brush and the COLORS they choose are HIDEOUS, just like they are.

Bot flies are attracted to death, doo doo and bugzappers, and that might explain their preferred color schemes.

Yes, they also seem to think that apples are blue, which I find quite troubling.

OK, since these vicious posts are made directly to me, I will respond just this one more time.

First, the accusation that I did not seek care for my Dad.

Mother and Dad were under intensive care for the last several years of their lives.

Mother had heart failure. For those who think, as I did until it hit our family, that heart failure is simply a weak heart that results in death in one's peaceful sleep, or at worst a heart attack at the breakfast table, that is not the case.

It is a very slow death. One knows well in advance that death is soon to come. First there is weakness. Unable to walk more than a few yards without rest. Sucking on an oxygen bottle that must go everywhere one goes.

My mother was a very determined person who gardened and was active until she could no longer move. We got a motorized chair so she could go from the house to her garden.

When she wanted to go out, I drove her.

But then eventually the swelling in her legs got so bad that the doctor had to be very careful. Too much diuretic and the kidneys fail. Too little and the swelling increases.

And mobility goes almost to zero.

Along with the swelling comes intense pain. At the last, she could not even tolerate the contact of the bed sheet on her feet, so she had to be heavily sedated with morphine.

Eventually, she lapsed into a coma shortly after noon on the day of her Th birthday. The nurses said that it was her will to live to have a little birthday party with her children and grandchildren, which we did, that kept her alive. At the end of our visit, she lapsed into a coma from which she never recovered consciousness.

Now contrast that to Dad. When he learned of her death, he said he wanted to die and be with her. My father's mind was perfectly clear. Not only was he no more depressed than an ordinary person would be upon the death of a spouse, he was very tough individual who thrived on problems. When ever there was a problem, he was always the first to tackle it and resolve it.

Because his mind was so clear and because the doctor had known him for many years and knew how strong willed he was, the doctor followed his orders. My opinion was of no consequence.

To really understand, you have to know that they had been married for 73 years.

It is a long story which I do not care to go through for the education of the unwilling, but there was between them some sort of extra sensory perception that told him he had to get to the hospital the very morning that she was taking her last breath. A long story not for here.

So there was a connection beyond your understanding and your nasty note does not merit any more explanation on that point.

Now as for floriduh being outside Terri's building when she died, that is just what I suspected.

Outside in the midst of and part of the hysteria and sensationalism. A media CIRCUS.

Unless you have sat at the bedside of one who has chosen to or has by others been caused to die in that fashion, you really have no idea what you are talking about. None whatsoever.

If you have had a member of your family die because they chose to refuse food, please feel free to explain the circumstances. I would be interested to know what your role was in that incident.

My previous made it quite clear that as late as 10:00 PM the night before his death, my Dad was wide awake, describing to me the persons in the old photos and suffering no pain.

Sensationalism has no place in the resolution of such a difficult matter. There is no question that Terri's family's wishes should have prevailed but that is a matter to be resolved in the courts and in the legislature, not by the unfounded sensationalism exhibited here.

As for it being against the Florida Constitution, I am not a resident of FL nor am I a constitutional lawyer.

Since you must be both, I would suggest that you use your substantial abilities to see the the law is enforced according to the Florida Constitution.

Your efforts in that direction would be more productive that directing your venom at me.

Now with that, I will cease to attempt educate you. When I say I have been there, you can see from this story that I really have. The last months of 1998 and January and February of 1998 were the worst months of my life.

My Dad and I had a business together for over 50 years.

I saw him, worked with him and hunted with him almost every day. On those days when I was traveling, the nature of our business required that we have telephone discussions. So contact of some sort occurred almost every day. When he finally retired in his late 80’s, I quit traveling and stayed in the office which was within walking distance of his house so that I could look after them.

So your note to me is the braying of an ass.

With that, I am done.

Thank you for filling in the blanks. Now let me sum up. 1. You have no knowledge of Terri's true condition 2. You have no knowledge of her level of pain so why open that can of worms? 3. Your dad made a life ending decision as you indicate he was of sound mind. That's sad especially if his doctor knew about it. Glad you were nearby in any case.

Seeing seniors in nursing homes who never have visitors is heartbreaking. I pay attention to them.

farewell, woodbutcher.

If you were actually following the news, you would know that access to the Terri was extremely limited by her killers. And yes there were a lot of people there who simply wanted to show support for the Schindlers, there were ALSO some who were a lot closer to the Schindlers than you might realize. Some of those people who are close to the Schindlers participate in and read these threads. The Schindlers 100% support all efforts to keep Terri's memory alive so that others can be spared her fate.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT AGAIN

At Terri's 2005 Vigil, Terri's mom, dad, brother, sister and other relatives had to wait at a police checkpoint. The police checkpoint radioed to Terri's room where Michael Schiavo whether they were authorized to visit Terri or not. If MS denied them entry to stand one foot away from Terri or they would be arrested, they would have to cross the street - no visit.

Terri's visitor list was exclusionary.

Of course most of us were outside but suffice it to say we knew Terri was suffering and for what? a bad husband? a wacko judge? death lawyers, the aclu? The GOP? the sci-fis? For whom was Terri sentenced to death? That is what we don't know... yet.

You were not allowed in the building. You have no idea wheather she suffered.

There are people ON THIS THREAD who were there and heard Terri scream in horror when they told her that she had been condemned to die.

I am curious though why do you refuse to answer any of my posts to you? Do I scare you? Don't be afraid of us, we're the good guys, when the chips are down we are the ones who will do everything possible to keep you from being killed.

Is that the law? If you are denied speech therapy and communicate in a different way other than perfect English and recognize people but are offput by strangers, you can be starved and dehydrated to death? hmmmmmm.

Terri tried to say "I want to live" but the cops threw everyone out of the room and said it never happened. Those cops were PAID VOLUNTEERS. They were rude to the Schindlers and to everyone there except for deathbots who were scary individuals indeed.

does an ex husband and a moron judge have the moral right to deny her family their request to care for her.

The question for you is does husband and a judge have a right to deny food ORALLY? Which they did. I am sure you can site many cases that they have done so?
