Terri Schiavo's Brother: Misinformation About Her Euthanasia Death Remains
Life News ^ | 4/10/08 | Steven Ertelt

Princeton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- Terri Schiavo's brother Bobby Schindler has been on a speaking tour this week that's taking him to colleges and universities across the country. Schindler was at Princeton University on Tuesday and he told students there that misconceptions still exist about his sister's euthanasia death.

Terri died in March 2005 after her former husband won a court order to take her life despite requests from the Schindler family to provide her with medical and rehabilitative care.

Though more than three years have passed since the Schindler family's lost their years-long legal battle to save her life, Schindler says the public still wrongly believes some of the misnomers that appeared in the media.

Though Terri was not on artificial respiration and not in a persistent vegetative state, Schindler told the students many Americans still think that was the case and that Terri had no interaction with his family and that she had some sort of terminal illness.

Though “much confusion still exists about Terri’s condition, Terri was not terminal or dying, and her brain injury was not going to cause her to die,” Schindler said, according to a Daily Princeton report.

He said Michael Schiavo, who is now remarried to the woman he dated during the debate over Terri's life, also made up his mind about Terri's condition without basing his opinion on the facts.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Michael [Schiavo] fabricated the [death] wishes and that his brother and sister did as well and that they perjured themselves in front of the judges,” the newspaper said Schindler said.

Schindler told the students he's worried about the long-lasting effects of the debate surrounding his sister and that more Americans will see disabled people like Terri as a "non-person."

“There is no such thing as a person who is a non-person. There is no one so disabled that they have lost their value or dignity,” Schindler said. He said such a view would be akin to “walk[ing] down the same path that led to the Nuremberg trials.”

“Once you achieve emotional distance from people who are ‘different’ from you, it is easy to look the other way while they are being killed,” he added.

Ultimately, according to the Princeton newspaper, Schindler said Americans need to stand up and fight for the disabled, terminally ill and others who are in jeopardy of becoming the next victims of euthanasia.

“We need to fight today to protect those among us who need our care,” Schindler said. “It’s our dream in the future that legal bigotry against the disabled will be as taboo as insulting someone’s ethnicity."

Yep, if Terri had been a stripper turned gold digger they might have let her live.

Right. Instead she had to support her chronically deadbeat unemployed husband who got mad because she spent some money on a hairdo the very night of her "collapse". Remember Michael?

I know. Someone here, maybe 8mmMauser, maybe someone else, I really don’t recall, answered my posts and directed me to info. smorton (I think that’s who it was) sent me tons of links that were so informative (sorry, I can’t recall each poster but all were helpful).

I was new and so uninformed about what happened to Terri. All I knew at that time was my own thoughts/feelings concerning the info given by the MSM: I thought her husband should have divorced her and allowed her parents to be her guardians. I thought she was on life support, learned otherwise here. I knew nothing about her husband denying her rehab or anything about their married life. A few posters here provided me with info, links, to the whole story.

Someone posted to me about the dallies, but being the computer idiot I was/am, it took me a bit of time to read and understand. Another poster, smorton I think, pm’d me and gave me even more links. I learned so much here about her situation.

I may not have posted about it before but I wanted to now. You guys provided so much info I had no idea about concerning Terri and just in general. I started here last year, maybe a couple years after this atrocity? Dont’ stop because maybe someone else who finds this forum will learn about what they didn’t know.

I hate that a family situation, or what should be a family situation was publicized and sensationalized by the media. However, if it wasn’t, some of us wouldn’t have known about Terri’s situation at all (even in bad, some good can come). I knew nothing, other than what I watched intermittenly on the News, about Terri. I thought she was on life support for years. I had no clue she was starved and dehydrated and that she WAS NOT terminal, just DISABLED, before reading here.

You guys are doing a great service, providing a great service. I’m all for it being in the family, about the family, but this situation, what happened with Terri, is not ok and it needs to be brought to the attention of everyone, no matter how many years pass.

If you had *moved on* before April of last year, I still may not have known all the details of this murder. Please don’t move on. There are many who still don’t understand what happened to Terri.

I also think and believe that everyone here would understand the difference between what happened to Terri and what happened with my parents(or anyone dealing with terminal patients). Elderly, terminal, suffering people who wanted or needed morphine to help ease their pain. What happened to Terri by her husband and the courts, and what’s going on with Lauren, trying to wrap my head around it all, is so different from easing one’s passing. Terri was murdered. She wasn’t terminal, she was disabled. She was denied rahab. Gosh, it makes my blood boil.

I pray for all of those who fight for these people. Never stop. I had no idea of the situation with Terri before reading here and learning all the details. I only knew what I watched, and it wasn’t much.

She wasn’t terminal, she was disabled.

All she needed was FOOD and WATER, that made her NO DIFFERENT than any of us!

You may have also heard that her estranged, adulterous husband asked on at least one occasion, "When is the bitch going to die?" What you may not have heard was that this was while she had a urinary tract infection (hardly uncommon among women) and that he was denying her routine antibiotics in hopes that the infection would get worse and kill her.

I want to be CERTAIN that all of you see Twink’s WONDERFUL post (#142), it is always refreshing to hear that we have been able to show people the truth and counter the culture of death’s lies.

(T’wit) would have LOVED to read this!

I’m sure T’wit must have been one of the FReepers who helped Twink learn the truth about Terri.

It’s good to know our persistence serves a purpose. I may slow down at times, but I will never give up, and never forget.

He was certainly an insripation. No doubt about it. The great thing is that all of his words are still here for everyone who wants to learn. Just as he predicted it would be, but he would of not claimed any credit for it himself. He always thought it was a group effort. Like I told him, "an Angel is on your shoulder" Thanks Tim.

I always enjoyed watching T'wit toying with the trolls.

This might be my all-time favorite reply to a troll:

Next time I go to a hospital, I wish I could be sure of getting a nurse with Carla Iyer’s sense of ethics and dedication to her patient.

She may have but I only recall a couple, and smorton was one of them. I think that’s the right name. Another posted a link to the dallies, maybe 8mmMauser or something like that (I so suck at this). smorton or something like that did the most. She pm’d me with tons of links.

I was always for Terri’s parents but didn’t know all the details. I found all the details here and I appreciate all of you.

A few months ago I was reading through Tim’s old threads for some inspiration and came across it, I laughed for hours.

I also have a hard time remembering names. If it wasn’t for my computer, the past would all but disappear, because I can’t remember it myself. LOL

T'wit was Timothy Wheeler. He was an early and long time writer for National Review and a great defender of life. He participated in these threads until the day before he died, sadly most of us never even knew how bad his health was when he passed away last August.

T'wit, FReeper extraordinaire, has died

The State of Florida admitted that she had done her duty after the out of state complaint was lodged against her by some creep.

LOL then you understand. I recall smorton most of all but I’m sure others helped too. Gosh, it was a year ago, or sometime during the summer, sometimes I don’t recall what I ate for breakfast :)

I was new, and you guys had this thread about Terri and I learned tons. That’s the point, I guess. Don’t move on. I learned tons and others will too.

I’m sorry to hear that. Thanks for the info. God has surely blessed him for his work. The name does sound familiar but I really don’t recall.

Keep up this work you’re doing. I have no doubt you are reaching people, informing people.

We have our Terri List I ping usually daily. Let me know if you would like to be added to it. I will add you to the list.

T'wit and I were close personal friends outside the threads and I get emotional reading his twiticisms.

He has branded us personal friends, especially the ones I ping here, with his own legacy.

I post to the list most every day, have only missed a few days in the last three years and am rarely without grist to post from the media. They tell us to move on and let go, but they, themselves, are obsessed with Terri's Legacy, they wear as an albatross around their necks.

8mm
