If you are a renter, you probably don’t earn enough to pay much if anything in taxes. Tax laws are for tax payers, not poor people who are the recipients of the taxes paid by those that earn enough to afford to buy a house. Of all the government programs that high earners pay into and don’t qualify for, there is finally one that they may be about to take advantage of.

Be careful what you wish for...you might get it. Every renter is renting from a property owner. I agree with the petition that Congress should not be bailing out the irresponsible buyers and lenders with taxpayer money. I own my residence free and clear and have a mortgage on my 2nd house. The 2nd house is sometimes vacant, sometimes rented. Currently it is occupied by my 24 year old son. I can make the mortgage payment under any condition. Thus far, I have not rented the house at current market rates or turned a positive cash flow. C'est la vie. I didn't buy it as a flipper. It is intended to be a source of rental income in my retirement years. If that happens sooner, fine.

Lots of renters around here. Half of them are hanging on by a thread and some not even hanging on. Most haven’t decided to stay in Alaska or leave. The rest are students and have better cars than average and will be gone in a couple years. Maybe one in twenty is building their own house and renting only until they get a roof on their own place.
