CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. -- An Illinois delegate for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama resigned after using the word "monkeys" to describe black children playing in a tree, the Obama campaign said Tuesday.
Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski, a trustee in the Chicago suburb of Carpentersville, was issued a $75 ticket for disorderly conduct after neighbors complained to police. She says the word wasn't meant racially and she will fight the ticket.
"Given the incident, Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski is stepping down as a delegate and will be replaced," said Obama spokeswoman Amy Brundage.

ME TOO! My kids used to repeat a counting poem.
Ten little monkeys jumping on the bed, one fell off and bumped his head. Momma called the doctor and the doctor said, no more monkeys jumping on the bed.
Nine little monkeys jumping on the bed....
etc etc etc
....taught them to count backwards and the visual was a cartoon monkey, but I always called my kids monkeys when they were climbing or bouncing! They weren’t offended!
"look at that little monkey go"
Well my son sure was SHOCKED that he had a cracked vertebrae problem that showed up on this week’s Xray and the doctor asked, Did you ever fall from a high place and land on your butt? Mike remember falling from the tree. I bet he didn’t even tell me at the time that he fell because he knew I wouldn’t let him go back up in that tree!

I’d honestly like to get that ticket, because it would be my ticket to dish out a verbal whacking in a court of law. “Monkeys!” Indeed! Grrrr!
Did you hear the one about the bus driver who was rude to a woman as she got on the bus? He tried to get her to pay fair for her infant who she held in her arms.
She sat down and complained to the man sitting next to her, saying that the bus driver told her that her child looked like a baby gorilla.
The man said that she should go up and give that bus driver a piece of her mind. He said “Go on up there.... here, I’ll hold the little monkey for ya!”
What a macaca.
Exactly. Some people can be "offended" by anything if they look hard enough.
I recently had this discussion with a black coworker who complained of prejudice towards her at a facility we serviced. When asked why she felt that way... she said the staff ignored her and "if they could have used the "n" word....I have no doubt they'd have used it". I told her they ignored me as well for the first 2 months I went there.....basically because they were so short-staffed and busy.....not having time to visit or entertain the outside help.
As far as this article goes.....people need to get a grip. I've described my grandchildren as little monkeys......because they're into everything and bouncing off-the-walls at times. It would never occur to me that it could be taken as a racial slur. Good grief!
She said the parents were outside supervising the children, but she went over and told them to get out of the tree because she was concerned about the boys safety and because the small magnolia tree was being damaged.
The father of one of the boys told her it was none of her business, she told the Chicago Tribune, and I calmly said the tree is not there for them to be climbing in there like monkeys.
Why did she even say ANYTHING? Not her tree, not her property, not her kids, not her business.

As an aside, was the tree in the neighbors yard?
While I read the whole new piece, I still don’t get it. What was the crime here? The word, monkeys? Is it now against the law to use that word? If so, just about every parent has been guilty of calling his/her kids monkeys at some point in their childhood. What are we supposed to conclude from all of this? That monkeys have become a verbally protected species?
these people want to be "offended" so they can take advantage of it
Oh good FRICKIN grief. I describe my own pasty white daughter as a monkey all the time.
Political correctness is extreme poison on our country.
The tree was in the father's front yard.
I calmly said the tree is not there for them to be climbing in there like monkeys.
I can’t remember how many times my mother used to call us monkeys because we were always climbing trees. We thought nothing of it. People are really getting pitiful.
That was soooooooooooo funny when that happened....I guess I live in NJ the same reason you do
