BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Authorities enter Eldorado-area temple (Fundamentalist LDS cult)
Go San Angelo ^ | 5 April 08 | Paul A. Anthony

Posted on 04/06/2008 5:27:22 AM PDT by SkyPilot

Local and state officials entered the temple of a secretive polygamist sect late Saturday, said lawmen blockading the road to the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado.

The action comes hours after local prosecutors said officials were preparing for the worst because a group of FLDS members were resisting efforts to search the structure.

The Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and Schleicher County sheriff’s deputy confirmed that officials have entered the temple but said they had no word on whether anything occurred in the effort.

The incursion into the temple caps the three-day saga of the state’s Child Protective Services agency removing at least 183 women and children from the YFZ Ranch since Friday afternoon. Eighteen girls have been placed in state custody since a 16-year-old told authorities she was married to a 50-year-old man and had given birth to his child.

Saturday evening, ambulances were brought in, said Allison Palmer, who as first assistant 51st District attorney, would prosecute any felony crimes uncovered as part of the investigation inside the compound.

“In preparing for entry to the temple, law enforcement is preparing for the worst,” Palmer said Saturday evening. They want to have “medical personnel on hand in case this were to go in a way that no one wants.”

Apparently as a result of action Saturday night at the ranch, about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, a Schleicher County school bus unloaded another group of at least a dozen more women and children from the compound.

Although members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or FLDS, have provided varying degrees of cooperation to the sheriff’s deputies and Texas Rangers searching the compound, all cooperation stopped once authorities tried to search the gleaming white temple that towers over the West Texas scrub, Palmer said.

“There may be those who would oppose (entry) by placing themselves between law enforcement and the place of worship,” Palmer said Saturday afternoon. “If an agreement cannot be reached … law enforcement will have to — as gently and peaceably as possible — make entry into that place.”

Sect members consider the temple, dedicated by then-leader of the sect Warren Jeffs in January 2005 and finished many months later, off-limits to those who are not FLDS members, said Palmer, who prosecutes felony cases in Schleicher County.

Palmer said she didn’t know the size or makeup of the group inside the temple.

The earlier refusal to provide access was even more disconcerting because CPS investigators have yet to identify the 16-year-old girl or her roughly 8-month-old baby among the dozens removed from the compound, Palmer said.

“Anytime someone says, ‘Don’t look here,’” she said, “it makes you concerned that’s exactly where you need to look.”

The girl told authorities in two separate phone calls a day apart that she was married to a 50-year-old man, Dale Barlow, who had fathered her child, Palmer said.

The joint raid included the Texas Rangers, CPS, Schleicher County and Tom Green County sheriff’s deputies and game wardens from the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Although CPS and Department of Public Safety officials have described the compound’s residents as cooperative, Palmer disagreed.

“Things have been a little tense, a little volatile,” she said.

Authorities removed 52 children Friday afternoon and 131 women and children overnight Friday. About 40 of the children are boys, said CPS spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner.

No further children have been taken into state custody since Friday, when 18 girls were judged to have been abused or be at imminent risk for abuse. CPS has found foster homes for the girls, Meisner said, and will place them after concluding its investigation.

Meisner declined to comment on the fate of the 119 other children and said authorities were still searching the ranch for others Saturday evening.

“They’re in the process of looking,” she said. “They’re literally about halfway through.”

That reminds me. I found the greatest internet station which only plays old cowboy westerns. I just love having it on. I have forgotten to turn it on, though. I have nearly all of Roy Rogers, Sons of the Pioneers, etc cds. If I had someone very smart around me, I would get him/her to plug in my late hubby's surround system. He paid thousands of dollars for it and it has not even been turned on since right before he died in July 2006. I can find the wires but I do not have any clue as to where they go into whatever the electronic thingy is. Shows how much I know. I would probably blow up everything if I tried to do it. He bought a 62” tv, 2 huge speakers with the black netting like stuff, 2 smaller ones, the huge sub-woofer, and something that sits on top of the tv. Maybe an amplifier? A friend said this one was one of 3 sets in town. He use to turn the tv to the golf channel, turn the sound on the tv down and put in 5 cds and lay back and listen to the music while watching golf. I'm sorry but this is just making me so sad.

LOL!

"Once when Mark Twain was lecturing in Utah, a Mormon acquaintance argued with him on the subject of polygamy. After a long and rather heated debate, the Mormon finally said, “Can you find for me a single passage of Scripture which forbids polygamy?” “Certainly,” replied Twain. “‘No man can serve two masters.’ " - Louis Utermeyer in A Treasury of Laughter (Simon & Schuster)

FIRST, my deepest sympathies for your loss. And Huntsville is a great town, but I prefer Athens just West of you (I lived and worked and played in Alabama for 24 years, B’ham and Anniston areas).

If I were in your position, needing a sound system hooked up, I’d call the AV department at U of A Huntsville and ask for help. OR ... make a drawing of everything, every socket, every color, every lettering on the panel where the wires would be plugged in, then take THAT to the nearest Radio Shack and ask them based upon the wires and plugs and colors of panel and speakers what should go where.

The more I’ve thought about the situation, the more cautious I am about how it is to be judged or discerned.

IMHO, polygamy tends to provide a cover for many sexual perversions, with an accompanying denial of marital and familial relationships, which God had previously made available to believer and unbeliever alike, to live healthy blessed lives, prior to the first death. While many might only consider the substance of a family and a marriage as being the apparent public appearance of those institutions, polygamy might simply appear to be a variation on a theme.

The raw substance of marriage and of family, though, is much more robust than any number of sexual perversions or variations allow.

Where a sexual perversion might be included in the aberrant behavior, there is likely a much deeper, incredibly perverse pathology being uncovered, which may have sunk to depths far greater than the public imagination might ever conceive.

Similar to homosexuality, most people who acquiesce into acceptance of that perverse behavior as simply an ‘alternate’ lifestyle, rarely actually consider how deeply scarred the hearts of the pervert has become.

I don’t find any acceptance of polygamy in Scripture, but do find it to be accompanied by high dislike from God Himself towards those who were involved in it (at the minimum of critical review), and in other passages it would be accompanied with other sexual perversions such as bestiality, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, and harlotry, many punishable by death in Old Testament times.

In this age, we face an additional temptation, not so much of sexual lust, but in the temptation to become legally judgmental of any associated with polygamy. Likewise, there may be many who become unwarrantably lenient and forgiving of the teenagers exposed to that environment, simply providing a worldly crutch for those involved to substitute as a counterfeit for a simple relationship with God through faith in Christ.

IMHO, the major legal actions should be taken against the leaders of the group, and discerning who might have been adults in controlling and encouraging the group to continue in their rebellious lifestyle. Such actions are not as much a response to evil, as much as it is to enforce legitimate authority in our divinely established institutions of volition, marriage, family, and nation.

Excuse me Ms Swiss cheese women pay tithes too and go on missions and they are not looking to become polygamist God so your scenario has a lot of holes in it!

The reason I do the things I od, is because I love the Lord Jesus Christ and my heart has a desire to honor him!

And when I see my faith misrepresented to fill someone else’s vindictiveness it bring great pain to see that and how someone who can be so mean to something I feel very reverent about…

It would also pain me to see someone else to do that to another person faith.

Why would someone want to be so hurtful is beyond my understanding.

and if I do my self get angry it did not start out that way it was because some who I don’t know daily was venting and the only one they are going to inflict pain on is the person who’s faith that is they are demeaning, this venting is going to stike anything else that is not present.

I am thankful that I do know the whole true for me personally so even though the falsehoods might inflict pain I know they are not true!

The Truth hurts resty. The Truth hurts.

Mormonism is a lie. You believe a lie.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:1 KJV)

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 KJV)

Thanks for your insights.

The analogy with raising children is great. I might borrow it sometime.

I agree that "our ways are not His ways." I still have a lot to learn about His ways, and I find the process to be quite interesting sometimes.

I am sorry, restornu, buy that is based upon a statement from Brigham Young's own lips. The only innaccuracy is that Brigham Young stated that one must not only defend it, one must engage in polygamy in order to become God or Sons of God.

Now since I believe the Bible to be the bench mark or foundation that is what I build upon and draw from.

the things you are quoting me is a warning to those who are unclean and they will be taken over by a dilussion.

or also as in Romans 1 as well a 1 Tim. 4 and it is the natural man many of those thing described here I have witness from many posters and when broght to their attention they get insense about it instead seeing a few of the areas they feel they do not have to do better in.

Some even go so far to think they have grace which covers the mutitude of these flaws in character, they feel it is find to cause their brother to fall from their unkindness saying it is the truth.

Well it is the Holy Spirit that teaches truth and it is throught the atonement Jesus Christ that enables man to improve his nature.

As far as one 1 Tim 4 and Romans 1 as I said the Bible was my benchmark when I came upon Moroni 10 I did kneel and humble myself unto the Lord having a sincere heart, and a desire to know about the Book of Mormon so I prayed to my Heavenly Father and asked in the Name of Jesus Christ if the Book of Mormon was true I was answered by the power of the Holy Ghost that came upon me and I receive a joy that was beyond words even till this day I shall never forget.

I really never expected such a conformation and I am truly thankful.

I recognized that spirit from when I would read certain passage in the Bible the Lord would witness to me.

I also know after my baptism that feeling of cleaness and that I was shown things that I have seen before but with new eyes and what was pleasing the Lord and offense to the Lord.

I know beyond a doubt this is the Lord Church and I have received blessing and answers to many of my quest and I know when the Lord is not as near and I know by repentance and I feel the sweet embrace of the Lord. No longer do I walk this journey alone.

Moroni 10
3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.

4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.

7 And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.

Romans 1
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

1 Tim 4
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer
