BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Authorities enter Eldorado-area temple (Fundamentalist LDS cult)
Go San Angelo ^ | 5 April 08 | Paul A. Anthony

Posted on 04/06/2008 5:27:22 AM PDT by SkyPilot

Local and state officials entered the temple of a secretive polygamist sect late Saturday, said lawmen blockading the road to the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado.

The action comes hours after local prosecutors said officials were preparing for the worst because a group of FLDS members were resisting efforts to search the structure.

The Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and Schleicher County sheriff’s deputy confirmed that officials have entered the temple but said they had no word on whether anything occurred in the effort.

The incursion into the temple caps the three-day saga of the state’s Child Protective Services agency removing at least 183 women and children from the YFZ Ranch since Friday afternoon. Eighteen girls have been placed in state custody since a 16-year-old told authorities she was married to a 50-year-old man and had given birth to his child.

Saturday evening, ambulances were brought in, said Allison Palmer, who as first assistant 51st District attorney, would prosecute any felony crimes uncovered as part of the investigation inside the compound.

“In preparing for entry to the temple, law enforcement is preparing for the worst,” Palmer said Saturday evening. They want to have “medical personnel on hand in case this were to go in a way that no one wants.”

Apparently as a result of action Saturday night at the ranch, about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, a Schleicher County school bus unloaded another group of at least a dozen more women and children from the compound.

Although members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or FLDS, have provided varying degrees of cooperation to the sheriff’s deputies and Texas Rangers searching the compound, all cooperation stopped once authorities tried to search the gleaming white temple that towers over the West Texas scrub, Palmer said.

“There may be those who would oppose (entry) by placing themselves between law enforcement and the place of worship,” Palmer said Saturday afternoon. “If an agreement cannot be reached … law enforcement will have to — as gently and peaceably as possible — make entry into that place.”

Sect members consider the temple, dedicated by then-leader of the sect Warren Jeffs in January 2005 and finished many months later, off-limits to those who are not FLDS members, said Palmer, who prosecutes felony cases in Schleicher County.

Palmer said she didn’t know the size or makeup of the group inside the temple.

The earlier refusal to provide access was even more disconcerting because CPS investigators have yet to identify the 16-year-old girl or her roughly 8-month-old baby among the dozens removed from the compound, Palmer said.

“Anytime someone says, ‘Don’t look here,’” she said, “it makes you concerned that’s exactly where you need to look.”

The girl told authorities in two separate phone calls a day apart that she was married to a 50-year-old man, Dale Barlow, who had fathered her child, Palmer said.

The joint raid included the Texas Rangers, CPS, Schleicher County and Tom Green County sheriff’s deputies and game wardens from the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Although CPS and Department of Public Safety officials have described the compound’s residents as cooperative, Palmer disagreed.

“Things have been a little tense, a little volatile,” she said.

Authorities removed 52 children Friday afternoon and 131 women and children overnight Friday. About 40 of the children are boys, said CPS spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner.

No further children have been taken into state custody since Friday, when 18 girls were judged to have been abused or be at imminent risk for abuse. CPS has found foster homes for the girls, Meisner said, and will place them after concluding its investigation.

Meisner declined to comment on the fate of the 119 other children and said authorities were still searching the ranch for others Saturday evening.

“They’re in the process of looking,” she said. “They’re literally about halfway through.”

I Said: Jacob had the option as soon as he discovered the deception to repudiate her and annul the marriage, he did not.

I Said: In a culture where virginity is everything to a young woman, no, you don't just throw a mature fish back into the water...especially if you're trying to be a man of God and not convert such a woman into a permanent "unmarry-able" woman.

I live in such a culture (Mormons value Chastity in women) and I am sure I would have noticed if my wife had been "Swapped" out before she lost her virginity. This argument is silly what he had sex with her before he knew who she was? Get real.

I Said: With modern-day surrogacy, the husband doesn’t have to sleep with the surrogate.

The Scripture in question says Wife, get over it, Abraham also had concubines, (A wife without as many rights) get over that too while you are at it.

Either the bible means what it says or it does not Anti Mormons make lots of hay over "as long as it's interpreted correctly", this it is the height of hypocrisy to now insist the word wife does not mean wife but has to be interpreted to mean something besides wife.

denial it's not a river in Egypt...

You go off on a hunt through other scriptures looking for other places she is called Servant, she was both. It's called multiple relationships, we all have them.

you want to talk culture, Abraham needed an heir, children of Concubines could not inherit, bastards could not inherit, it had to be the son born by a wife in order for the male child to be eligible to inherit. Not marrying Hagar would mean there was no point to fathering a child by her. It really sucks when reality won't bend for you doesn't it.

I Said: You have proof of the intents of these men long dead? I thought not. So this is just an undisguised smear.

U Said: Yes I have an LDS citation...won't be able to get around to it til tonight (didn't originate with me).

What, no attribution? IF I had done that you guys would all be calling me a plagiarist!

I Said: Actually, I can show you how I'm related to Abraham, it's in my genealogy, I've followed familial relationships in the Bible, honest.

U Said: (Yeah, yeah, we know...we're sure the apostle John, who is supposedly still out & about on planet earth according to Smith...or perhaps one of the three ancient Nephite disciples...showed up to your door and filled in the blanks on your family tree :) )

Actually, if you can tie into the Plantagenet's (most people can if they work at it a bit), you can then buy the book wtih your genealogy back to Adam. Another way is to tie into a jewish, or any ofthe other twelve tribes (there were some who were left behind) if thy had a diary, which was translated and published as a book (one of our ancestors' was) then you can buy that and ours had her genealogy back to Abraham, the rest is in the Bible, which is fairly easy to come by.

Never met John, or any of the three Nephites ... That I know of :-)

The Joseph Smith Translation has restored some of the plain and precious things that have been lost from the Bible (1 Ne. 13). Although it is not the official Bible of the Church, this translation does offer many interesting insights and is very valuable in understanding the Bible. It is also a witness for the divine calling and ministry of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

A truly disingenuous post, next you'll hold a seance and tell us the answers came from beyond the grave, I could just as easily manipulate the scriptures to get opposite answers to just as carefully worded questions to make sure Abraham was indeed polygamous, but it boils down to do the scriptures actually say Hagar was Abraham's wife anywhere?

A. Yes

End of story, thanks for playing.

I also find it interesting that you guys seem to have no problem with Abraham being a man who would sleep with the "help", and take concubines (basically having a girlfriend, or a woman on the side from how it's been described here) over him lawfully having more than one wife.

Abraham was a righteous man, which is more in keeping with that statement? "sleeping around", or the "Lawful wife"?

I'm not exactly sure why you guys feel that way, but that is in effect what you are saying when you go this route.

Is adultery preferable to polygamy? Is it better to rape a slave (sex against her will is rape) and force her to bear your child better than to marry her?

Stop this madness, stop insisting that such sin was approved of by God, for in truth such was never the case.

U Said: whether or not the title of "wife" is mounted on the bedpost

Right there, you have lost this argument. IF the title of wife means nothing to you, then marriage is a sham and means nothing as well.

U Said: You and DelphiUser aren't going to start claiming that the mates (Hebrew underlying word--issah) of male clean & unclean animals are eligible to become plural wives, too, are you? :) [I think if I was the owner of a cow, and gave her as a "wife" (issah) to somebody already married, and if he had sex with the cow, I don't think we could jointly conclude that this man was a polygamist even if I did call the cow his "wife"!!!...which, BTW, is quite distinct from calling his wife his "cow"!!!:)]

This hysterical overreach, shows how bankrupt your arguments are. Nowhere did I even approach the idea of sex with animals, nor marriage to them. Your sick mind has led you here, and I leave you in your personal Gomorrah, may God have mercy upon your soul for even suggesting this.

Who lied at least TWICE to save his OWN butt from getting killed - gave his FIRST wife AWAY to others.

DOUBTED what GOD had told him; which was obvious by going along with the wild idea that SARAH thought up:"Take my handmaiden and nail her!"

****

There are people who use to be Methodist or any faith and for some reason don’t believe in their doctrine and left but do they kick against the prick? No, they just move on!

I know that what mainstream has is not true or incomplete they are limited in what they have and are able to do for salvation.

You are Catholic and if you are so concern why you are not Presbyterian or are you saying you have distain for Presbyterians, Elsie?

He does respect the title wife DU - that is why he put it "wife" in quotes because these are not "wives" and they are not respected by 50+ year old men who physically abused them and sexually raped them. A wife is a wife. What we are talking about here is teen age sex slaves being called "wives" by evil people.

You know that too. Your attempt to be outraged and try to seize some sort of sanctimonious high ground on this is laughable.
