“Aside from his film appearances, Heston was a civil rights activist in the 1960s, marching beside Martin Luther King, served as president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1966-1971, sat on the National Council of the Arts during those same years, was elected president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) in 1998, and is the author of several autobiographical books, including The Actor’s Life, In the Arena, and To Be A Man.”

THANK YOU for posting that photo. I'm going to show it to my children, who are moreno (my daughter's a little lighter in color than my son, but both have the benefit of turning completely brown in the sun, unlike me, who burns...)

I was just having this discussion with my son the other day. Some kid in his class tried to get some other kids to call a little black girl "n$g%e#". Rob didn't understand what it meant but doesn't call other kids names. I had that discussion with him a long time ago and explained it was best to treat all kids nicely. Later on in life those kids might become their best friends and they didn't need that between them.

Anyway, the other kid didn't get anyone to call the girl the name, so he did it himself. BIG TROUBLE involving the Vice Principle giving him a major reprimand. The kid was terrified and the other kids in class saw him get in huge trouble. I had to have a talk with Rob about how some people hate for no reason and stuff, and again, not to call people names no matter what. Judge on behavior, not ethic or racial appearance unless it's out of bounds and he'd know what that is. Anyways, a bunch of his pals and my daughters are black/latino, mostly Dominican and Puerto Rican. Their folks make some fine food, (and they share!) which is what I've taught Rob to look for from people from other countries. ; )

So this is great to see someone I respected so much marching carrying a wonderful saying quoted from Thomas Jefferson's work, who is our family's hero.
