Security has been increased at a Simpsonville middle school after a student was arrested and suspended for wearing a T-shirt with a noose and a reference to the Ku Klux Klan.
Greenville television station WYFF said some students at Bryson Middle School stayed home Friday, fearing violence after the T-shirt worn by an eighth-grader angered both black and white students the day before.
The student lifted another shirt revealing the racist T-shirt in the lunchroom.
The student has been charged with disturbing school and recommended for expulsion.
I hope more kids start doing this at some point. Just on principle. A black kid can wear a black-fist shirt and be lauded for it, but when a white kid rebels against this stifling system, he’s attacked mercilessly by everyone.
The white majority in this country greases up and bends over anytime Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, CNN, MSNBC, and Rev Wright so much as shake a fist. Rather than defend the rights of all youth, they would rather eat them.
Cowards.
As long as he doesn’t resort to violence, he ought to be able to wear that shirt (minus the noose) for as long as Malik Shabazz gets regular appearances of O’Reilly.
Whites who spout the hate that Malik Shabazz spouts are regularly disbarred/refused admission to their state bar. Instead, Malik gets appearances on TV as a practicing attorney.
One has to wonder what exactly is going on here (aside from the white majority permanently shaking in its boots anytime any black leader raises his voice).
Good riddence to this kid. He should have been at least charged. This kid needs a lesson quick or he will be the next shooter at the school.

Good Lord. What is this 1992? Malcom X was a while back and I doubt that kids are wearing that stuff anymore. It was a short phase.

The school was right. I'm a high school Algebra teacher, and you cannot imagine what a disruption this type of behavior is to a school.
After all this lunchroom drama, the kids' minds are not focused on academics at all. So you've lost half a day. Next day, kids are afraid to come to school. You've lost another day.
I promise you that an 8th grade boy was not engaged in a principled stand to fight for First Amendment rights or any such high-minded goals. He was showing off for attention, dragging the school down.
Many of you rightly complain about the poor results of public education. Fair enough, but some of us entered this field because we want to change that. We want our students to succeed and become contributing members of society.
For the record: my school has a dress code. No TShirts at all, except on special days when students are allowed to wear a school TShirt only. The right of a school to have and to enforce a dress code has been adjudicated several times, and the school districts generally win. This is a prime example of why.
This kid is obviously a little idiot, yet I do not understand why he was arrested. The article did not say he became violent or agitated or that he attacked anyone. He wore the shirt under another shirt so he knew very well it was something to be hidden and something that could cause conflict.
He is a troublemaker and deserved to be sent home but I don’t understand upon what grounds he was arrested. I agree with the person up-thread who would put them all in uniforms. Put them all in school uniforms and that will end any such nonsense, as well as a host of other silliness. I was always of the opinion that school uniforms were just a band-aid on a larger problem and would make no difference one way or the other. That is, until one local school went to uniforms 10 years ago. In one year they went from being the tail to being the head, academically.
Ten years later, you could remove the uniforms and mix them with students of other schools and you can still pick these students out from the rest. They will be the ones that when asked a question will reply, “yes sir, no sir”. I suppose I was wrong about school uniforms.
I'm kinda with you. The article is a little light on details. But it does say he was charged with "disturbing school." I didn't know that was a crime, but I guess it is in that jurisdiction.
As you can see from my earlier post, I would have to agree that, at a minimum, he was guilty of that.

I don’t care who runs the school. A kid doesn’t have the right to talk like a tool in class. As far as I’m concerned a kid should stand up when a teacher enters the room and stand to f-ing attention when he’s being addressed by one, addressing them as ‘sir’ or ‘ma’am’ if and when spoken to.
If he doesn’t like it, he can suck on it until he leaves school. I’m sick of cocky kids who know all their rights but don’t think they have any responsibilities. They need to know that adults call the shots, not them....

Well, if they aren’t, they should be, since both have the same problem. Obama promotes the black version of what the KKK is to the unreconstructed whites. It is rather like the old saw about the bootleggers and the Baptists voting dry.
