In an ABSOLUT World according to Mexico (Absolut responds to ad outrage)
Absolut Company Blog ^

Posted on 04/04/2008 1:51:32 PM PDT by mnehring

We have received many comments on an ad showing what an ABSOLUT world would look like from a Mexican point of view. We are sorry if we offended anyone. This was not our intention. We will try to explain. Though you may not agree, I hope you understand......

.....The In An Absolut World advertising campaign invites consumers to visualize a world that appeals to them -- one they feel may be more idealized or one that may be a bit "fantastic." As such, the campaign will elicit varying opinions and points of view. We have a variety of executions running in countries worldwide, and each is germane to that country and that population.

This particular ad, which ran in Mexico, was based upon historical perspectives and was created with a Mexican sensibility. In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues. Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.

As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market. Obviously, this ad was run in Mexico, and not the US -- that ad might have been very different.

How about the cheap $10 dollar a gallon Popav if you're feeling brave?

I believe the term is "crazy-brave."

Absolut is based in Ahus, which is part of Scania. This region was part of the original Danish Kigdom (Jutland, Zealand and Skaneland) from the 9th century until the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658.
Perhaps Danes should use the following map for their campaign.

We are sorry if we offended anyone.

Non-apology apology. Does anyone anymore either sincerely apologize for doing wrong or stick to their guns and refuse to admit any fault? /rhetorical question I'd respect either of those responses more.

Someone should ask Absolut to create an ad portraying an out of business vodka company- using a vodka bottle.

Tell them "we're inviting consumers to visualize a world that appeals to them ."

So what this company is really saying is:

“Drink our stuff, even if our ads offend you because you weren’t supposed to see them in the first place. We pander to the demographic area we are marketing to, even if that means denigrating another part of the world (or omitting another part, as the case may be). But anyway, drink our vodka.”

They have no excuse other than marketing, so,,, we’ll just have to see how that marketing plays out. Since they area already responding via their website, my thought is, they are feeling some heat.

Here’s to more Stoli,,,or Titos,,,or another type of Vodka.

Anything BUT that A_________ type. I don’t want to type their name.

No, why this ad never advocated the changing of borders or addressed any immigration issues. Not at all. It’s a vision of a more ideal time.

Did you post this when you were high?
