One person has gone to prison for 4 months for "hate speech" in Canada. Another has been fined $1,500. A third is up for two years if convicted.
All of them were found guilty of posting on various white nationalist web sites.
Some ideas are illegal in Canada, and they will put you in jail for them.

Richard Warman is supposed to be a private citizen who has filed a "complaint," yet he's allowed full access to the state's investigation.
Thanks A-B.

amazing absolutely amazing...sometimes i like to think that really governments will never again return to the dark days and then i read this and its like a slap on the face with a wet fish...
we would all we well advised to remember my favorite quote by Thomas Jefferson
A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.
here is a prime example of the state organ becoming more powerful and more important then a citizen. the system must protect itself...regardless of the cost. its interesting that this case is about nazis — yet you have all the hallmarks of nazism in how they are setting up citizens. its actually very disturbing...even more so because it canada...

“Human rights commission” translated from the Spanish “inquisición”. Isn't the Constitution designed to protect us from corrosive government intrusion like this?

I think the CHRC finally messed with the wrong guy and they will rue the day they they tried Steyn.Actually, two of my rules for happy living are:
1. Never play poker with a guy whose first name is the name of a city; and
2. Never, ever, get Mark Steyn pissed off at me.

Is the Minister of Justice mentioned in he article a Liberal? Nope, Conservative. Right now he's between a rock and a hard place for two reasons. First, commenting on a case that is before a hearing is a no-no for a Minister. Second, if the Tories do anything to rein in the HRC all of the usual suspects will scream "racism". The best strategy right now is to allow these trials to proceed as a way of generating public pressure against the CHRC, then allowing a Liberal bill to repeal the "hate speech" law to pass.

Landlords are a common target for HRCs here because most landlords don’t have the resources to fight back. Most landlords are advised by their lawyers to try and settle for $5,000 if they can because fighting a complaint will cost at least that much.

I wonder how much their attorneys charged for that advice?
