Now start asking yourself why those numbers weren't there, and see what answers you come up with. (Warning: it's not going to be something one election cycle is capable of fixing.)

The numbers are here. The problem is that the system weeds out conservative candidates. A good conservative would simply vote NO 90 percent of the time and accomplish very little in his time in office. People get elected to do things though, that is how they get money to run again. To do things they have to compromise and create teams that have the same goals, and by the time they have done all of that they are no longer conservatives.

I don't have the solution. All I know is that Democracies have a tendency to amass lots of goodies for the majority.

No, you don't have the numbers. Here among your fellows on FR you only have the illusion of numbers.

There are ways to get back in the game, but again I'll say, it's not the work of a single generation. Unfortunately, patience doesn't seem to be the virtue it once was.
