I don’t happen to believe that our freedom hinges on the ability of a man like Oliver Stone to lie his ass off presenting a completely falsified history to our youth. Perhaps you do.
If he wants to acknowledge up front that nothing contained in his movie is true, I’ve got no problem with him saying whatevery he likes.
His movie about the Kennedy assasination was fabricated in a number of ways. Those going to see it were the kids between sixteen and twenty-five who had no idea what he put on the screen wasn’t factual.
Should appointed commissars deem what is ‘true’ and what is ‘fiction’ and label it appropriately.
Our Republic will survive far worse than Oliver Stoned selling propaganda movies to credulous teen agers. It would not survive the attempt to stop him. Freedom of speech is even for those you disagree with and you know are lying.
Anyone who goes to a Hollywood movie expecting it to be factually and historically accurate needs to take a course in media literacy.
People need to stop thinking that a piece of drama is supposed to be historically accurate even it deals with historical figures. It’s not a criteria for good drama and has never at any time in the history of Western Civilization. Shakespeare’s History plays were great plays but terrible history. The list goes on...War and Peace, Amadeus. Even Stone’s Nixon was a good film if you realize it’s not a history lesson.
