Terri Schiavo's Family Calls for Observance of Terri's Day to Honor Disabled Woman

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Terri Schiavo's family and a leading pro-life group are calling on people to honor the disabled woman whose husband took her life in a painful euthanasia death. Together with Priests for Life, the Schindler family has established the observance of “Terri’s Day” each March 31.

That's the day Terri succumbed to a 13-day starvation and dehydration death at the hand of Michael Schiavo, her former husband who won a court order to take her life.

“This third anniversary should be an occasion for all of us to both remember the injustice done to Terri, and reach out to others with prayer and concrete action when they need the kind of help Terri needed," Terri's brother Bobby Schindler told LifeNews.com on Monday.

Suzanne Vitadamo, Terri’s sister, added that Terri's Day is also a way for her family to encourage others to take better care of the elderly and disabled.

“Our family continues to be consoled and uplifted by the many ways in which people honor my sister, learn from her story, and grow in compassion for all the disabled," she said.

During the days leading up to Terri's death, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life brought comfort and peace to the Schindler family.

Father Pavone was present for the final prayer Terri participated in before her death. He also saw the manipulative ways Michael tried to prevent the Schindler family from caring for her or being present with her during the starvation and dehydration.

“Terri’s death was not the end of her fight," he told LifeNews.com. "It was the beginning of a new chapter in the pro-life movement."

"I call upon all those who were moved by Terri’s death to continue their courageous activism in the cause of life, and never to be silent," he said.

Together, Priests for Life and the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation encourage churches, families, organizations and individuals to observe Terri’s Day with prayers, memorial services, educational activities and community outreach.

How would all this play out under the presidency of one of the Marx brothers, Grouchy, Harpie, or Karl? Thread by wagglebee.

Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) -- Undaunted by their repeated failure to get the California legislature to approve a bill legalizing assisted suicide, the sponsors of the bill are moving forward with a new measure that promotes euthanasia in limited circumstances. Pro-life groups are asking for phone calls to defeat the bill.

Last Tuesday, on a straight party line vote, the Assembly Judiciary Committee sent AB 2747 to the Assembly floor.....

The irony of abortion and being a mom...

Thread by wagglebee.

Mother's Day will be bittersweet in some segments of our nation this year.

For some women, there will be no flowers, no chocolates—just the painful memory of a child lost forever to abortion.

It may seem incongruous to talk about abortion in connection with Mother's Day. After all, this is a holiday meant to celebrate the amazing, life-affirming gift of motherhood. Yet, in our schizophrenic society, it's possible that some women will go in to facilities to have abortions on Saturday and be expected to join in the celebrations of Mother's Day on Sunday..........

Abortion Makes Mother's Day a Solemn Occasion for Many Women

LONDON, May 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In the May 2 installment of his regular health feature in The Times, Dr. Thomas Stuttaford responded to a reader who complained of a loss of interest in sex following an abortion. "Though my boyfriend and I agreed it was the right thing to do, I feel guilty and I've gone off sex," wrote the questioner. Dr. Stuttaford responded by saying that loss of libido after an abortion is "so common that it can almost be said to be expected"..........

Ken Connor had supported Terri when he worked for Jeb Bush although Jeb went limp in our arms at the last hour.

.........................

America's frail elderly are already at risk for abuse and exploitation. Apart from the unborn, there is no group that suffers more from the "disposable man" ethic that is the legacy of Roe v. Wade. All over America, our elders in long-term care institutions suffer from abuse and neglect. But the perpetrators are not only to be found in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Sadly, the largest group of perpetrators is to be found among the families of the victims. A recent study by the National Research Council estimated that there are between one and two million cases of elder abuse in the U.S. The Senate Special Committee on Aging estimates that there may be as many as four times as many cases of elder abuse that go unreported. How much worse is the problem likely to become as respect for human life in our society decreases and the pressure on the young to care for the old increases?

Americans in search of a just society should seek to foster an honest and immediate debate over how we will care for our elderly, how much we are willing to spend in so doing, and how we can deal fairly with younger generations in the process. We need to ask ourselves how the utilitarian arguments that are increasingly being urged in the bio-medical arena impact the disabled and the frail elderly. We need leaders in Washington and in the state houses of America, who are willing, if need be, to completely revamp the way in which we care for the elderly. Millions of lives literally hang in the balance. On these matters of life and death, political posturing and campaign contributions must not determine our course. Time is of the essence. Putting off until tomorrow the debate we need to have today will only limit our possible responses, and increase the likelihood that unplanned financial pressures will lead to unjust policies. We must be prepared to roll up our sleeves and sacrifice to ensure that young and old alike are accorded justice in our country.

Ben Stein!

Thread by wagglebee.

...................................

May 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Ben Stein has suffered extensive media criticism for drawing the connection between Darwin, Hitler, and the modern eugenics movements in a powerful 10-minute section of his film "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed".

In an MSNBC.com review, Arthur Caplan calls the connection Stein draws between Darwin's theory and the Holocaust "despicable".  Neo-Darwinians on the whole have unleashed a barrage of insults at Stein and his work. They have also, however, completely failed to address the intimidating body of evidence Stein presents to support his claims.

While Stein has explicitly asserted that not every neo-Darwinist is a eugenicist, an examination of the historic record reveals that neo-Darwinism can and has provided the philosophic justification for numerous horrific eugenic projects. .............

As words are merely tools to the left, those which don't fit the requisites are simply changed, buried, ignored, and replaced with more effective words.

Thread by wagglebee.

Call it censored, call it buried, call it lost—the search term “abortion” was all of the above for approximately a month on POPLINE—a publicly-funded database that its administrators describe as “Your connection to the world’s reproductive health literature.”.....

Please check out the Terri Dailies for May and the current plight of Lauren Richardson as her fate looms similar in fate and importance to that of Terri Schiavo.

Let Lauren Live!
