Well, for one, the average person spends three years of their life on the loo - so there is plenty of time to think about it! But, while it is easy to laugh about toilets, or rather the lack of them, it is a very serious issue.
Two and a half billion people live without a clean or private place to go to the toilet.
This means that nearly 40% of the world's population have to use fields, streams, rivers, railway lines, canal banks, roadsides, plastic bags, or squalid, foul smelling, disease breeding buckets and unsanitary latrines.
When you consider that just one gram of faeces can contain 10 million viruses, one million bacteria, one thousand parasite cysts and one hundred worm eggs, it is easy to see how without proper disposal, human waste can contaminate water and food, and how this causes disease. According to the Water and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) the majority of illness in the world is caused by faecal matter. And it is these illnesses which lead to malnutrition.
Millions die each year from polluted water, and there is more concern for nebulous “global warming” which hasn’t killed anyone. Makes no sense.
Sad to hear so many have no decent place to go.
It’s so easy to make a sanitary outhouse/latrine
Also very easy to make a septic system for little $.
A nice septic system can be made with cinder blocks, plastic pipe, some large fill gravel, some tar, and a nice sturdy lid.
A nice sanitary outhouse needs only a shovel, a hand saw, some lumber and a little time.

Some people take the toilet shortage VERY seriesly, and hold on to theirs for dear life!

I have three of them in my house. With only two of us, no one has to squirm and wait.
Ick.
3 years of their life? To make the math simple, assume people live to be 60. 3 years would be 5%, or 1.2 hours/day.
Guess folks in the UK don’t have a lot to do...or maybe a great deal, depending on how you think about it.
And yet they are humans just like us. With the power to reason, the energy to work, and raw materials all about them. So why can't they even build a decent out house?

I’m going to combine earth-hour and world toilet day. Between 8 and 9 pm Saturday night, I’m not going to use my toilet. (I’ll probably just go out in the back yard if I need to take a leak).
