They just don’t get it.

There are several things at work here. First...newspapers used to do alot of local news...but the majority only have a page at the very most...for local stuff now. Second...cable has taken the news and basically ceased any reason to read a afternoon paper because you can get the up to date stuff off the local station. Third...most papers allowed themselves to become so political...that they could not interest folks from the opposite side. Fourth and final....Almost one third of every newspaper now....is advertisements. Even if they kept the paper at the same old 50 cents a day...for most of us...it seems like a waste.

.....The drop-off points to an economic slowdown .....

They have a wonderful excuse. The believe their own economic crisis stories that tell of a nonexistant recession.

I though ads increased in down turns? To gin up business and energise customers to buy.
