There is a book I would like to write someday. It is the story of my father's life before I came into the world. As a young man, he worked with his father installing Otis Elevators in China, got a BS in Mechanical Engineering at night from Michigan State, worked as an airline pilot for China National Airlines Company, flew the Hump for the Army Air Force as a civilian pilot in the CBI. Married in '45 at age 39. Three years later, I came into the world.
We went to Asia where he worked for the Army/State Department. I think it could be a good yarn.

I'm reading Catastrophe by David Keys. Someone mentioned it in an earlier thread. Apparently, around 535-6 AD something terrible happened and the history of the world was changed. I won't find out what until the end of the book, but the suspense is killing me.;)

Right now I am reading Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America's Enemies by M. Stanton Evans. I have about 200 pages left and will then read something in the fiction category. After that I plan on reading Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning by Jonah Goldberg. Yesterday I ordered from Amazon.com The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements by Eric Hoffer.

To be blunt, I am getting weary and depressed from reading these books. Why? Because the contain so much factual and truthful information which the vast majority of the citizens seem unaware of and really don't care to know. I use to think if the American public actually knew what the hell is really going on, they would rise up and demand adherance to the Constitution. I am fast believing the American public doesn't give a damn as long as they have American Idol and whatever brand of sports they favor at the moment.

Just finished reading “Lone Survivor” by Marcus Lattrell. I highly recommend it. His description about their Rules of Engagement (ROE) will make you angry. Other parts will make you cry.

"The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944" which is Volume 2 of Rick Atkinson's trilogy on the war in Europe. Very good. "John Adams" by David McCulloch. Might get to it. And "Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway" by Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully. The last is an in depth look at the battle from the Japanese side, and the authors make it clear that the U.S. win at Midway was not a miracle, but that in fact the Japanese had badly overreached and had pretty much stacked the deck against themselves.

On tap for next month, "General Lee's Army: From Victory to Collapse" by Joseph Glathaar.
