When a new pastor took over St Sympharosa's in the Clearing neighborhood the first thing he did in the church bulletin was heavily editorialze on the use of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and cut out confessions and traditional observances (novenas etc). I never liked the guy to this day he is still anti-military and a pompus SOB. But one reason why Catholic attendance dropped.
