It is painful to watch defenders of Barack Obama tying themselves into knots trying to evade the obvious.
Some are saying that Senator Obama cannot be held responsible for what his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, said. In their version of events, Barack Obama just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time -- and a bunch of mean-spirited people are trying to make something out of it.
It makes a good story, but it won't stand up under scrutiny.
Barack Obama's own account of his life shows that he consciously sought out people on the far left fringe. In college, "I chose my friends carefully," he said in his first book, "Dreams From My Father."
These friends included "Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk rock performance poets" -- in Obama's own words -- as well as the "more politically active black students." He later visited a former member of the terrorist Weatherman underground, who endorsed him when he ran for state senator.
Obama didn't just happen to encounter Jeremiah Wright, who just happened to say some way out things. Jeremiah Wright is in the same mold as the kinds of people Barack Obama began seeking out in college -- members of the left, anti-American counter-culture.
In Shelby Steele's brilliantly insightful book about Barack Obama -- "A Bound Man" -- it is painfully clear that Obama was one of those people seeking a racial identity that he had never really experienced in growing up in a white world. He was trying to become a convert to blackness, as it were -- and, like many converts, he went overboard.

The right side of the isle is little better than the left as the great ‘I am’ lord McCain got his elevation to leadership of the Republican party with votes of the vast reeds of the wind.
Not one of the presidential candidates can be said to be the ‘best’ of what was once the individual American character. We have almost become at one with the world.
When we’re all slaves to a New Socialist Order, Michelle Obama will finally be able to say: “I am PROUD to be an American!”
You know, her remark irritated me as much as anything Wright said. What a narrow minded ass she must be!
Dont forget his Wife and 2 very young daughters as well!

Hussein will probably be rejected by the Dem National Convention.
Beware. Do not count out the Clinton's who have controlled the DNC for 15+ years.
Hillary will tout her "centrist" credentials in the general election.

The honorable Mr. Obama is as white as he is black but he chooses to reject and insult that part of his heritage.
Exactly... and where is the MSM on this... crickets chirp as Obama is given a pass and never asked the simple question... How is it you never mustered the courage to confront your mentor, advisor, friend Mr. Wright regarding his flat out lies against America? Doesn’t that show a critical lack of judgement on your part?
It is extremely important that we find out exactly where Mr. Obama’s loyalties lie. The President of the U.S. is President of all American citizens not just the black ones.
I spent some time yesterday with someone absolutely convinced Wright isn’t racist in the first place. I wonder how widespread that outlook is.
I am waiting for the public cat fight between Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Clinton. That will be coming. Neither is capable of keeping their mouth shut,
Don't go there!
This woman frightens me more than her husband does!

'The wrong place at the wrong time' almost every sunday for twenty years.
So we want the unluckiest man that ever lived to be president???
Bump for Dr. Sowell.
My guess is they are identical in philosophy, she is just not as careful a speaker as he is.
Undoubtedly there are many Black churches with pastors who don't say the kinds of things Wright said. Obama is tied to Wright not by accident but by deliberate choice. The excuse of just accidentally having a "controversial" pastor just won't wash.
I’m no McCain fan, but I would crawl over broken glass to vote for him.
Your post made my day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think many of us herer feel exactly as you do. We play the cards we have, but an Obama presidency is out of the question. Gore and Kerry were only a heartbeat away from the presidency.
I pray that McCain picks a good VP running mate.
