CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- A US Airways pilot’s gun accidentally discharged during a flight from Denver to Charlotte Saturday, according to as statement released by the airline. The statement said the discharge happened on Flight 1536, which left Denver at approximately 6:45am and arrived in Charlotte at approximately 11:51am.
The Airbus A319 plane landed safely and none of the flight’s 124 passengers or five crew members was injured, according to the statement. It was a full flight. An airline spokeswoman said the plane has been taken out of service to make sure it is safe to return to flight. A Transportation Safety Administration spokeswoman reached by WCNC Sunday said the pilot is part of TSA’s Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program, which trains pilots to carry guns on flights.

I never said I hated them, I just think it has a very poorly designed safety that was put onto it for PC reasons. I’m not the only person who thinks that. A lot of shooters feel the same way. The gun itself is fine provided the operator knows the limitations of it.
My .45 Auto is a Ruger, but I still have a Dan Wesson .357, and it will shoot any time someone pulls the trigger. Shoots quite well, out of either barrel length...but if you jam it loaded into a bag, it can ‘accidentally discharge’ as well.
I agree with the US Army. There are no accidental discharges, only negligent ones!
So you do understand that if you pull the trigger it will make a bang-like noise just like a Glock?

I don’t know what make & model pistol was involved here, but odds are the gun was being played with, and the trigger got pulled.
As far as action designs, IMHO they should be using DA/SA autos equipped with hammer block safetys. These can be carried loaded with one in the chamber and the hammer down, safety on. In this condition, even pulling the trigger and dropping the hammer wil not fire the gun.
When needed, just push the safety off, and pull the trigger.
Simply put: easier to clean, holds up better under extreme cold, generally more accurate, more suited in larger calibers that might be necessary (Bear/Moose), the revolver for both self-defense and survival reasons is most often the better choice than the newer semi's. The much more mechanically complicated Glock, Beretta, Springfield, Sig etc., are also often more complicated to operate usually with many people having a hard time with the slide release etc. A stainless S&W with rubber grips for survival, or a hammerless compact lightweight 38 revolver for self defense is hard to beat. -IMHO
The Para LDA has a triple safety. The hand grip must be depressed to pull the trigger. The slide safety has to be manually switched to pull the trigger. And finally the internal safety disconnects the firing pin (unless the trigger is pulled) and this prevents a discharge if the weapon is dropped. Also the LDA has a true DA trigger with a very long pull like a revolver. It is unlike the DA on other semiautos.
