I did Easter vigil last night, too. I was also the lector. I did a LOT of reading last night! A beautiful Spring night here in Alabama. Warm, flowers and trees (and pollen) in full bloom; we lit the fire in the glow of the setting sun. A very nice service, but no one to baptise this year.
Easter is a bittersweet time for me. I know Jesus had to die for our sins and in order to fufill prophecy, but His death so points out our human ugliness. After all, last Sunday we celebrated His entry into Jerusalem, with palms and songs of praise. In less than a week most of Jerusalem wanted Him killed. How fickle mankind is.
Even a political lesson, when you think about it.
Four people were confirmed last night.
I’ve never been confirmed.
It’s my next major goal in life.
I am missing formal church services today but getting so much from true believers here.
I have adopted a plan to live my life in a more Christian way this year but also defending the country whenever I can against those who would seek its destruction/demise.
This site is full of wonderful minds and exudes the things that have made this country great in the past and will help it survive the trying times ahead.
We had an interesting homily at sunrise service this morning - the three groups of soldiers who "witnessed" Jesus as the Son of God: the temple guards who heard him identified, the place guards who took him before Herod, and the Roman legionnaires who crucified him. Unusual, but very interesting. Our sunrise service is small and intimate (usually too cold for most people), and I find very moving.
