I received this reply from Coca-Cola today:

Thank you for contacting The Coca-Cola Company. Your message to Mr. Isdell was forwarded to me for response and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

The Coca-Cola Company joins others in expressing deep concern for the situation on the ground in Tibet. We know that all parties involved hope for a peaceful resolution.

While it would be an inappropriate role for sponsors to comment on the political situation of individual nations, as the longest-standing sponsor of the Olympic Movement, we firmly believe that the Olympics are a force for good. Since 1928, we have supported the Olympic Games wherever they’ve been held, and have witnessed first-hand the cultural, economic and social benefits they bring to the host city and country.

We remain committed to supporting the Torch Relay, which provides a unique opportunity to share the Olympic values of unity, pride and inspiration with people all over the world.

As always, feel free to contact us again to share comments or concerns in the future.

I replied:

Dear (name here):

Thank you very much for your timely response. While I understand that Coca-Cola remains committed to the ideals of the Olympics, I suggest to you strongly that the Chinese government has shown by its actions toward the peaceful dissidents of Tibet that it has no interest in upholding those ideals. China’s actions toward Tibet have not inspired “values of unity, pride and inspiration with people all over the world.” In fact, they have done the opposite.

I still remember the old Coke commercial with the words: “I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.” I ask your company again to act in harmony with the rest of the free Western world by condemning China’s totalitarian, anti-religion actions toward the people of Tibet, and withdrawing from the Torch Relay.

I am still asking my friends and relations to join me in boycotting Coca-Cola products until we receive a satisfactory reply.

Yours sincerely,
