In a sermon delivered at Howard University, Barack Obama's longtime minister, friend and adviser blamed America for starting the AIDS virus, training professional killers, importing drugs and creating a racist society that would never elect a black candidate president.
The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor of Mr. Obama's Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, gave the sermon at the school's Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel in Washington on Jan. 15, 2006.
"We've got more black men in prison than there are in college," he began. "Racism is alive and well. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. No black man will ever be considered for president, no matter how hard you run Jesse [Jackson] and no black woman can ever be considered for anything outside what she can give with her body."
Mr. Wright thundered on: "America is still the No. 1 killer in the world....We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers...We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi...We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God."
His voice rising, Mr. Wright said, "We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic....We care nothing about human life if the end justifies the means...."
Concluding, Mr. Wright said: "We started the AIDS virus...We are only able to maintain our level of living by making sure that Third World people live in grinding poverty...."

Actually, this is true only if you include those who are on probation, parole, furlough, diversion, or otherwise under the supervision of the State.
I wonder what more could realistically be done to recruit black men into college. As it is, any African-American even marginally capable of handling college coursework is jumped to the head of the line and showered with money that is unavailable to those not of approved minority background. Would the Reverend propose that they draw a comfortable salary just for turning up to class, perhaps?

A strong, Black leader (another MLK, Jr.) needs to step forward and lead the Black community. I don't see any other way out of this anger, this hatred.

I think the Rev. and his ilk has contributed to that more so then White America.
If this story never broke this guy would in line for lunches at the white house. Pretty scary.

Ok now be easy on me my first post to this website, which I never thought I would post to. Life-long Democrat but Obama just lost my vote and and many other Democrats with this revelation of this hate-filled so called ‘Rev’ Wright. I’m beginning to see the real Obama and it scares me. Unfortunately, I believe there is much more to come. I may be a Democrat but I am a patriotic American and non-racist and Obama fits neither category. I won’t vote for a President that hates his own country. I believe you will see a lot of moderate Democrats (yes we exist) decide to not vote for Obama after examining this information.
Not that I'm defending "Rev." Wright, but I think it's a little unfair to characterize him as a substandard sailor (Marine, yes!). I served in the Navy at about the same time and only earned E-3 because there minimum time in grade requirements that had to be observed, plus all of the different requirements that had to be met in order to advance in rank. Between myself and "Rev." Wright, I don't think either of us should be considered "substandard".

IMO, the problem is multi-dimensional. The erosion of the nuclear black family, the lack of a father figure in most black homes and the rampant peer pressure from other blacks are all factors in this statistic.
However, IMO, the most prevalent influence on young black men (primarily) comes from the stereotypes they see portrayed in movies and on TV. For many of us (when we are/were young), the view that we have of ourselves stems a lot from movies, TV and music. Most black kids grow up believing that the only way they have to succeed is to be a musician, pro athlete, thug or drug dealer. This is the image that is impressed on them from the time they first discover TV. Is it any wonder that they grow up believing that this is all that's available to them in life??
Worse, black culture derides successful blacks who came from nothing and made something of themselves through hard work. The problem that "Rev." Wright has is that (unless my color TV has a malfunction) the majority of people committing the crimes are black (you'll notice it if you watch enough of "Cops"!). Until the black culture is ready to stand up and take responsibility (like Bill Cosby has tried to encourage them to) the status is likely to remain "quo" for the foreseeable future!

I see. So black men dominate the prison population not because they commit a lot of crimes, but because "the racist white man" just imprisons them for kicks.
It will be a sweet irony if this pastor's hateful, racist, blame America diatribe is what actually prevents Obama from becoming president.
