I believe that the 40mm grenades fired by the MK 19 are not interchangeable with the 40mm grenades fired by the M-79 or M-203.
The Russians always had a policy of naming ammunition by different millimeter numbers, even if they were in fact the same caliber. This was to avoid battlefield logistical mixups.
“I ordered the 40mm MK-19 rounds, NOT these #$%$^! 40mm M-203 rounds!! We can’t use these!”
In Russian nomenclature, one type would be called 41mm, even if it was 40mm, to avoid battlefield mis-shipments.
No they are different in their range . 40mm from a Mk-19 is high velocity and from the M79, M148and M203 it is low velocity. Not interchangeable at all.......
As well the point and area targets are different . Consider the point and area targets of the old M60 GPMG. They are almost identical to the Mk-19’s ammo. 1100 meter point....:o)
Mk-19 has it’s place and is a sweet accessory to the M134D or DT versions and Ma Deuce !
Greatest tools every made for a gun truck !
That's for certain.
No they are not. The Mark 19 rounds are much more powerful and will blow the breech off the M-203 or M-79 if fired in them. They are also linked which prevents anyone from loading them in unless you are a dumba$$ and totally force it.
I LOVED my 203. Grade A bang bang.

Yes, I remember reading that way back when there was a Soviet Union. They had to deal with dozens of ethnic groups in their conscript military and a lot of them didn’t do Russian very well. But they could relay numbers good enough. Null, odin dva tre...
