ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a person briefed on the federal investigation.
An affidavit in the federal investigation into a prostitution ring said that a wiretap recording captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a hotel room. The person briefed on the case identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9.
Mr. Spitzer today made a brief public appearance during which he apologized for his behavior, and described it as a “private matter.”
“I have acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family and violates my or any sense of right or wrong,” said Mr. Spitzer, who appeared with his wife Silda at his Manhattan office. “I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public to whom I promised better.”
You remind me of a cousin when we were growing up. If he couldn’t get or lead me into trouble, he tried to get me to get myself in trouble.
Well not that I want to speculate or anything....
....but since you threatened my life....
....a lot of folks are intepreting that “not safe” comment as meaning sex without a condom. So okay, right there I’m not thinking that’s what it means because couldn’t he have sex with his wife without a condom? I would think at this point in their marriage they’d be beyond this.
Yes, I think there’s some kinky stuff going on because for the dough, and the risk....I think ole Spritzer had some kind of fetish.
I don’t know what it is but hey, others are speculating that he’s into some kind of bondage/sado thing....hey...maybe the prossie WHIPS the guy. Some might consider receiving whippings and beatings as “unsafe”.

I just read the complaint. Sptiz's main problem appears to be the Mann Act, interstate transportation of a woman for purposes of prostitution. That's serious stuff.
Also, it appears that the agency had no girls in Washington; they had to be sent in from elsewhere. The investigation seems centered on New York and Los Angeles, and secondarily on Miami.

The federal investigation of a New York prostitution ring was triggered by Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s suspicious money transfers, initially leading agents to believe Spitzer was hiding bribes, according to federal officials.
It was only months later that the IRS and the FBI determined that Spitzer wasn’t hiding bribes but payments to a company called QAT, what prosecutors say is a prostitution operation operating under the name of the Emperors Club.

My guess would be that when you are married to a powerful man, and live a privileged life such as politicians do unfortunately, it is addicting. Not just monetary but the celeb factor.
And maybe it's instinctive for political wives to stand in public with a man who is in trouble.
If a wife stays with him ultimately is her own business.
But, the PUBLIC appearance has got to end, it sets a really bad example in my view.
