I have a ...
AMD 4600+ x64 dule core
4GB Patriot DDR2 800 memory
500 GB of disk space on RAID 1
A NVIDIA 8800 GTX (768MB Memory) Video card

And run Vista 64 Ultimate

The OS runs just fine. It starts fast and runs without a hitch. I do have a few programs that are not compatible. To solve this problem I run XP on a virtual machine.

I think most people who cry about this OS just don't have the computer to handle it, or do not have the technical know how to “make things work” when they have to.

It's a new OS, in a year or so most of the compatibility issues will be a thing of the past.

“dule core”??? That must be incredibly advanced. I’ve never even heard of it.

And that is the problem. People think that Vista Capable means their machine CAN handle it. A reasonable assumption.

Kind of like buying a 100 HP car with a sticker on it that says "10 second 1/4 mile capable." Sure, just buy the 400 HP model.

If I had duel processors and 4 gigs of ram, I should hope it would boot up and run fast. Sorry but the vast majority of us have 1 gig of ram and a single processor and Vista will barely run on that.

I have 2 Dell Inspiron S's with Vista Home Premium. It smokes, is lightning fast, automatically locates, downloads and installs drivers for every gadget I've ever added to either of my systems.

I love Vista. I'll never go back to ME, XP or any of the other ones. And "No", I don't know Bill Gates.

Given the all development time they took to get it out the door. It's a damn teenager, and should at least know how to drive by now.

M$ screwed the pooch on this one, and even they know it. They're going back to numbering for the next version. Windows 8 I believe, which they're going to push out the door well ahead of schedule. More fun for the end users.

It will still be crap, and you'll still have to jump through hoops, buy newer hardware and software, and you'll still have to agree to let M$ make changes to your system without your knowledge. You give consent (in perpetuity) when you install it on your system.

No thanks. My computer is mine, and what it does, what it runs, and when it does it is my decision. Not your overlords in Redmond.

It's a new OS, in a year or so most of the compatibility issues will be a thing of the past.

It was finished in November 2006. It was released immediately, and by January 30, 2007 everyone could get it. Vendors and developers have already had 1.25 years to "make it all work" and it still doesn't.

Are you saying that if we give it just one more year they'll get everything to work? Or are you forgetting that they had over a year already?
