On a conference call with reporters this morning, congressional supporters of Hillary Clinton demanded that Obama force adviser Samantha Power out of his camapign.
"Were here today to ask Senator Obama to ask Samantha Power not to be part of his campaign," said Rep. Nita Lowey of New York, responding to the remark by Power -- a foreign policy adviser to Obama and expert on international human rights. "Its really a test for Obama, a test of character," she said.
Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida called the comment and other Power remarks "a torrent of negative personal attacks."
And Rep. Greg Meeks of New York called Power's words "personal character assassination."
"Senator Obama needs to stand up and to publicly say that this person will no longer participate in his campaign," Meeks said.
Power, a policy advisor, isn't on staff.
She told The Scotsman that Clinton "is stooping to anything."
"You just look at her and think, 'Ergh'. But if you are poor and she is telling you some story about how Obama is going to take your job away, maybe it will be more effective. The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive," Power said.
Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson also responded to a question as to whether his comparison of Barack Obama and Ken Starr wasn't equally strident.
"Ours was a reaction to the Obama campaigns attacks on Senator Clinton post-their losses in Ohio and Texas," he said. "I did not say that Senator Obama was like Ken Starr, and I think there is a difference between engaging in the kind of ad homimen personal attack on someone's character that Samantha Power did, and talking about the kind of campaign that team Obama has been running since Ohio and Texas."
"Had I or anyone on this campaign referred to Senator Obama using the word that Samantha Power used, we would not be on the campaign this morning," he said.
Man this gets better with each passing day.
I hope this translates into obama declining the veep when she offers it to him. This will seal her political demise.
Power issued a statement Friday in which she acknowledged the comments but said she "deeply regretted them."
"It is wrong for anyone to pursue this campaign in such negative and personal terms," she said in the statement. "I apologize to Senator Clinton and to Senator Obama, who has made very clear that these kinds of expressions should have no place in American politics."
Context, just in case anyone like me had no clue what was going on.
Someone pass me the popcorn, these next six weeks are going to be delicious.
Pass the popcorn please.
Get Hillarys people some Kleenex......booo hoooo
Power has the right thread on this. If the Obama campaign retreats it is dead because if they get to the convention and the Clintons can win by Super delegates alone then they will do anything to do it. The Clinton’s can not afford to really have people and Democrats remember the worst of the Clinton years.
Richardson....
Doncha love it? Pass me the Jr. Mints, too.
I just love it when the RATS eat their own.
this is difficult to take seriously, considering how Hillary has degraded George Bush.
I don’t know what the big deal is....she IS a monster....and from what I’ve heard her husband has called her much worse. Is this any worse than calling her Secret Service detail “trained pigs”? I don’t think sooooo.
Of course Hillary has to try to milk this for as much sympathy and as many votes as she can. She really is a monster.
I gotta tell ya that tw*t Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is getting on my last nerve.
Richardson is still looking for those missing laptops from the department of energy. If it’s anybody other than obama hillary loses 40 states.
The only way Clinton can win is to depend on SuperDelegates. She would have to claim over 90% of the remaining delegates to win any other way (assuming she keeps the supers she already has).
But, the same is true for Obama. He has to win over 70% of the delegates remaining, and the way the Democrats divide delegates, a 60/40 split is a huge win.
Who gave Hillary immunity from criticism?
