A lot of speculation has taken place among the medias talking heads as to who John McCain will pick as his running mate. As is the norm when mainstream pundits discuss Republican politics, their suggestions are not in the partys best interest.
Beyond that, theyre also lazy. The media looks at who is in the race, who was in the race and a few other national leaders of prominence and keeps speculation to within those small groups. Thats the equivalent of a corporation picking its company president out of a hat. Vice Presidents are chosen based on geographic or national appeal. Not because someone also ran, wasnt popular and lost (or is popular, but only among the same demographic that backs the top of the ticket), but at least has a familiar face and will save the media interns some time from having to research his already known background.

J.C. Watts
Juan Hernandez.
They were talking about Michael Steele on the Dennis Prager show the other day. I like the idea of Steele as VP.
Someone like Bob Riley - Alabama or Haley Barbour - Mississippi would be better choices.
Bob Riley
And while were on this topic we should also mention Duncan Hunter. Had Hunter been a senator, a governor, military leader or even a big city mayor, he would have done far better in this years primaries. Hunter has the ability to succinctly explain the conservative point of view on a whole host of issues. Much of his philosophy is rooted in common sense and compassion. Hes tough on immigration, but for security reasons. On all issues, hes practical, sensible and without malice. Expect him to begin a run for governor, lieutenant governor, or for a senate seat in 2010. Also expect him to become a much larger force in GOP politics.
Military leader? So, does this guy want General Peter Pace or General David Petraeous to run for prez? Duncan Hunter has been on the House Armed Forces Comm. for 27 years. He helped rebuild and equip the military after the K'toon decimation. As the chairman of the committee he managed a budget of over $630 billion, IIRC. He was a decorated Army Ranger and served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. His son is a Marine Captain who served 2 tours in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan. Why on earth would Congressman Hunter want to sully himself by becoming sInator? Since when are sInators considered good presidential material? This year, that's when!
Duncan Hunter has actually done something positive for the country during his 27 years as a public servant. Much more than the other political hacks that sit on their backsides on Capitol Hill sucking up every dime they can steal from the American people.
I nominate Alaska’s Governor Palin: she would not only help repair the rift with the conservative base, she (and, for a moment, her husband) are rebuilding the base single handed!
This had to come up. Rush Limbaugh.
As if McCain isn't repulsive enough -- adding that tanning bed closeted homosexual to the ticket would signal the end of the Conservative content in the Republican Party...
Duncan Hunter may be the only one who could get me to vote for a McCain ticket.
Al Gore’s not doing anything and he has experience.
Haley Barbour? Fred Thompson? Gene Taylor?
I've been too busy in the mornings to listen to Rush in quite a while, but I know that something always seems to come up where Governor Palin is concerned! (This probably explains her 4.5 kids...)
OK... Ann Coulter.
This whole conversation is nothing more than one more step in the process of suckering conservatives.
J.C. Watts would be a great choice — conservative, a pastor, former QB, former Member of Congress, and did I mention that he’s black?
So do I, but we want him available to run in Maryland in 2010 for either Senator or Governor.
God is my copilot, and Crist is my running mate?
(”And he sure as HELL isn’t fit to be my Lord and Savior” — Bob Dornan, referring to Bill Clinton and his “new covenant.)
And she’s attractive too.
Bob Riley... talk about your teenage wasteland.
